Last night, coming home from the barn, I stopped to fill up my gas tank. Regrettably, the handle-lock-thingie on the gas pump was, unbeknownst to me, stuck in the locked open position, the result of which was my spraying myself, my car's outside, and my driver's side interior with gasoline. This is/was just as unpleasant as you might think. Did what I could to wash it all down with the window-cleaner squeegee at the pump, but that didn't help much. The fumes were very strong, but I had to get home, so all I could do was drive with all the windows down and the fan on. This was about 8 PM last night and I had to drive 680/84. Aside from freezing my hands off my biggest worry was succumbing to the fumes. Thankfully J/S had met me at the barn, so he followed my home in his own car. I thought I was cold-but-OK until I got out of the car, and then I discovered just how woozy I was. Got packed off immediately into the shower for some lung and body detox.

I left the windows open all night, but the car still smells pretty bad (better than last night, though). J/S sprinkled a bunch of backing soda on the car interior and I think that's helped as well. Good thing I live and work in very low-crime areas. :-/

In other news, when I haven't been working or at the barn I've been helping J/S write a resume/application package for a job that would be very cool for him. It went out yesterday -- the first resume out the door -- yay! Don't know what the chances are for this particular job, though, because they wanted "proof" that he could do some called out skills and there just wasn't time to track all that down. Lesson learned: must get a comprehensive portfolio put together for him. Probably have to send away for college transcripts as well. Well, I still have my fingers crossed because it would be a fabulous job, but in any case it was a good exercise in resume writing. Hope springs eternal. :-)

Back to work...

Bleh!! Sounds like some kid trying to make a joke out of someone. I'm sorry you got stuck with it, but glad you're ok. =(

Oooh, we need to talk about March Crown...I presume we're still on for the Ball and such, yes?

Oh, yes indeed we need to talk about the Ball. Would you prefer to talk in person, over the phone, or online?

I'm thinking/hoping you (and [livejournal.com profile] ppfuf?) can just use the sets from 12th Night, or Crosston Ball?

Anyway, thank you so much!!!

If you notice that the amount that the previous person pumped added up to a rather round dollar amount, check the pump handle. If they put say $20 in, the pump will shut off slowly and the nozzle itself might not click to the off position.

A vinegar rub on the carpeting and upholstery, followed by drying, then a baking soda rub should help remove the remaining fumes.

I had this type of thing happen to me dozens of times when I was first driving.

I solved the problem by ALWAYS putting the gas filler nozzle into the gas tank before I turn on the gas pump. Since I started this practice I no longer have this problem anymore.

Sorry you got got by this! I hope you can get the smell out. Remember to wash your car ASAP so the gas doesn't eat through the metal of your car. Best of luck!
