If you notice that the amount that the previous person pumped added up to a rather round dollar amount, check the pump handle. If they put say $20 in, the pump will shut off slowly and the nozzle itself might not click to the off position.
A vinegar rub on the carpeting and upholstery, followed by drying, then a baking soda rub should help remove the remaining fumes.
