...the kitchen is full of dirty dishes, none of the laundry is put away, your fingers are bruised, and the cats give you accusing looks because you haven't played with them for the *longest* time.
Sewing Blarg: I know I sew at glacial speed, but Jeeze-Louise! I stayed home all day today and sewed. It was all hand-sewing, because that was the only way to do it. All I got done was to make and attach the sleeve cuffs (with little trim picdils). These sleeves are kinda like little pillows, and in order to get the shape right I had to monitor every stitch. The little bastards are now ready to be sewn onto the robe itself. Then it's hem-time. I'd like to put a protection guard on the back hem, but I don't know if I'll have the time.
I'd really like to make a petticote to put over the farthingale, because you can see the top hoop in this particular dress, as well as the drop from the last hoop to the floor. Again, I'm not sure I'll have time, but it should be done. I never imagined, when visualizing my vacation, that these sleeves would be as much of a time-sink as they have been.
And as I've mentioned in previous posts about this robe, it is Heavy. One of my lessons learned is to never again make a robe with a cartridge-pleated back out of velveteen. I'll be making an entrance in this thing, and having some pictures taken, but I won't be able to wear it all night. I may be sitting a lot at 12th Night, folks.
Well, at least I'll have something new to wear to 12th Night, which hasn't been true for 6 years. And I'm looking forward to our Sewing Night and Aprenti group photo--everybody's outfits are looking so good!
:-)

Date: 2005-12-31 09:35 pm (UTC)I'm cartridge-pleating velveteen too, and and I fully expect it to weigh a ton...but most of the weight will be taken by my shoulders. Since I carry a 10 lb. purse around most of the time, my hope is that I'll hardly notice. Of course, if I've completely miscalculated, I have lots of Motrin.
Cartridge pleated velveteen
Date: 2005-12-31 10:26 pm (UTC)The dress I am working on (first new thing in ages) is velveteen and from a completely different pattern from anything I've done before. I am now at the stage where I have to put buttonholes on the sleeves (9 per), and I'm stalling because I'm nervous. It's the first time I will have done buttonholes with the current sewing machine.
This dress requires a new underdress, which isn't started. And I have not found a suitable hat pattern yet.
