Might as well update...

...since I can't seem to focus on anything I could get paid for... :-/
White Shield was a very pleasant event. Put up the little Stallarifannsk dayshade that J/S' household gifted him with (the idea was to give him a sunshade that he could put in his little Saab). Looked nice and was easy to put up and take down. The feast was Totally Yummy, and I hurt myself eating too much. Nice to know that our King-to-be is a very good cook. :-) And I got to tell a Decameron story to Santiago and Rose and got some good feedback.
March Crown: Many, many thanks to Sarah, Trystan/Violet, Vyncent, Crystal, and Geoffy-Matt for all the work they put into making the Ball happen. Thanks too to Morgan, who suppled faboo tapestries, and Alessandro and all the other musician who played on, despite the late hour. :-0 The Ball was delayed 2 hours, but it happened, those who attended danced, played games, and generally had a good time. :-) Not as big a turnout as I would have liked, but we did indeed succeed in giving people an activity option that they don't usually get at a Crown Tourney. Go us!
I did wind up spending a large percentage of my time in the hall and/or walking between the hall and our sunshade setup. One lesson learned for me is to be more specific in taking job sign-ups prior to an event, and to be better about asking for help. Not horrible, but our little crew of mostly 3 (Sarah, T/V, and I) felt kinda isolated. Didn't have to be that way if I'd been more specific in lining up help -- my bad.
Outside of the Ball, I was very happy with our Stallarifannsk Camp Configuration #whatever. We have so much canvas now there seems to be endless options as to what we bring and how we set up. ;-) This time we stayed in a hotel, but set up the 14 x 14 panther canvas sunshade with the smaller Stallarifannsk dayshade in the back as the kitchen area. It was fun to play hostess. :-) And the food I made for Sophie, Guillume (sp?), J/S and I was yummy and well received. I was amusing for Gianetta to marvel at the sight of me cooking. ;-)
Meetings happened, and I'm overjoyed at Gianetta being offered her Laurel. She got asked as she was sitting with me in our sunshade, which was made of win (although Gillian and Leohtulf would have liked to have been there as well :-( ).
For me it was a 16th C event. I tried on my pink venetian while packing, knowing it would be big but hoping it would still be usable. Not. Sigh. There will be no time for me to alter it before Mists Coronet, so I won't be able to follow Her Highness' theme that weekend. Looks like Coronet will be All 14th C All The Time.
Now that the Ball is done, I need to get going with 16th C day at W/AT War. As of right now I've got Johanna and Fia volunteering for classes/activities. *Must* get classes to Sabrina by April. Ack!
Legally Blonde: Got to see the San Jose Musical theater (or whatever it's being called these days)-sponsored show, Legally Blonde. I never saw the movie, and I had my doubts about the concept, but I wound up really liking it. Lots of different musical styles in one show, including a Gilbert and Sullivan-type number and a spoof of Riverdance. I still have the opening number OMG You Guys, in my head. Maybe it was all those summers I spent in LA... I suspect it makes a better musical than a movie. J/S got to go too -- our first musical show together! :-) The Usual Suspects are now buying tickets for the next season, which starts in September. On the bill are a Dance show, a tribute to the Beatles, Stomp, Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, and The Color Purple. Looking forward to it.
Barn: Brandee is doing well, although she's still got acne-like bumps on her back. Still treating them and they don't seem to bother her. The other news with her is that she wants to run around a lot more than she did last winter. I don't know what the difference is these days, but the Paint Princess has a Need For Speed when you take her out of her stall. My only guess is that she has so much muscle on her these days that she really needs to stretch and let off steam on a daily basis. Still, she's really polite about it. Yesterday it was particuarly evident: We got to have a turnout in the outdoor arena (finally, it was dry enough), and she ran around like a real horse. Then she stopped and started eating, so I put her halter on and led her out. but she was still snorting and huffing. Hmm, says I, mayber you're not done. Area was taken, so we went to a round pen where she ran around like a maniac some more. Had a nice ride afterwards, but even after she gets a chance to blow off steam she tends to be more "strong" when you get on her. Of course, she's a good girl and pretty quickly gets the message that she doesn't get to set the pace (although she periodically checks to see if the situation has changed. ;-) ).
Same ol, same ol, with my riding. It gets a little better. My trainer came back from a Mary Wanless clinic and came back with a new-and-improved way to be "narrow", which helps with Brandee's tendency to fall through the right shoulder. I need to strengthen my outside thigh muscles, though, esp. on my left thigh. :-0
Sewing: body of J/S gambason together. Now I need to draft up the sleeves, quilt some more padding for said sleeves, and put the whole thing together. I'd hoped to have this thing done by Coronet, but now I'm not so sure. Marguerite is travelling for 3 weeks, so that 3 hours 2 days a week that I'd normally have for sewing I now don't have.
On an extreme OldCostumeLaurelGuilt note, I confess that I just don't want to think that hard about sewing these days. So I spent money (which I shouldn't have done -- bad me) and bought the Reconstructing History pattern packages for 14th C womens and 14th C mens dress. I've gone through my stash and identified fabric for some outfits for J/S and me. Don't know when this sewing is going to happen, but it's in the que. As is a Venetian dress for Gillian, who is letting me off the hook per getting that done for a specific event. Still have to call Dharma about fabric dye for that project...
Life in general: Good, in that J/S and I are together. Stressfull, in that there's no contract work in the pipeline once my current project is done, and J/S still has not found a job. Just seems like there is a lot going on now, more so than I'm used to, and I find that to be stressful. I can tell I'm stressed because I'm stress eating. Must get a handle on that, too...
Lots of musing in my head about the SCA and West Kingdom culture, but I'll leave that in my head for now.

Date: 2010-03-24 02:45 pm (UTC)I'm hoping to coordinate with the foodie collective so that there can be 16th C food. If you wanted to do something in addition to that, would you be interested in doing something in the area of music or drama?
Oh course, helping with set up and take down is always welcome too. :-)

Date: 2010-03-24 12:31 am (UTC)"Small but mighty" is kind of a code phrase in my area at work, & I think that describes the ball. Certainly, it was enjoyed & impressed a few ppl. Made me glad to be of service.
Also, I badly want to play (steal) your games -- will you be at June A&S? If so, I'd love to have a little gamblin' time :-)

Date: 2010-03-24 03:06 am (UTC)It does make me want a do-over, at least as far as publicity and decorating go. It would be great to get another themed mask ball in there somewhere, but I also see the problems with competing activities at events like Crown. Still, I had a blast when all was said and done. Thank you for organizing it! :)
