A lunchtime post and inquiry. ;-)

As regular readers now, in conjunction with [livejournal.com profile] ppfuf and [livejournal.com profile] learnteach's 14th C cook playdate (see http://ppfuf.livejournal.com/26862.html), I'm organizing a little 14th C playspace. My question is this: What do people want this to include? Possibliites might be any combination of the following:

-- It's a tournament, after all, and that's pretty darn 14th C. We could work with this: Ladies gallery, fighter/consort support, 14th C pagentry central, ???- just brainstorming here.

-- Storytelling, a la The Decameron or the Canterbury Tales. Pick a story and tell it in your own fashion. Read outloud to the cooks.
----I've wanted to talk about Patient Griselda, the last tale in the Decameron. Group discussion? Could tell the tale on the site and then talk about people's reactions, as well as how it was recieved in period.

-- Music? I'm clueless on this score, but could ask around (you know who you are, you really do...)

-- Games. Not as much documentation available as with the 16th C, but there is some. Cards are introduced very late in the century, BTW.

-- Virtue discussion, possibly on What is the Virtue Most Applicable to both Cooks and Fighters? ;-)

-- Book Day of Sharing: Assuming the weather's good, bring your 14th C appropriate books to let people look at for the day, kinda like we did at that Collegium a few years back.

Any other ideas?

I'm thinking I'll set up the new 14 x 14 sunshade, but not camp, myself.

I'd love to talk about Patient Griselda, it's one of my favorite period stories. She shows up in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales too, IIRC.
I'll check with GM about music.

Check with blondefeather about games. I would imagine dice are period. You can borrow my dice with dice cup.

I'll be doing the cooks playdate thing I expect, but any of the other activities that end up over that way would be great.

Well, my plan was to co-locate. :-)

Yes, depending on what area within EdLevine Park we end up using, I hope to just have the 14th century take over one oend of camp.

"Music? I'm clueless on this score"

Am I the only one who got a good snort outta that one! ;~)

I'm very interested in participating, but will have to think about what I can contribute. We do have several books on period games, I'll take a look see...

I of course was referring to the music/score comparison!

I think that participatory activities really strengthen the "suck 'em in" factor. My recollection is that marginal manuscript illos of the period have a fair amount of inspiration for simple physical games. Gotta go - jury duty orientation starting.

The collection I saw in Nuremberg had some saucy games. I have the info at home. I'll e-mail it to you if you're interested.
