Continuing on from my last post...

ppfuf suggested a small 14th C playspace for Mists Coronet (October 16-18). I'd be willing, anyone else interested? I don't know where the site is, and October is a packed month for the West, and we'd be competing with the Lists -- all downsides. But we could design it to be managable. Again, anyone interested?
- Looks like the overwheming vote is for 16th C at W/AT 2010. What if we made the Salon an all-day thing, and offer little How To classes along with the continuing party, sort of like a mini Courtier School. We could offer a writing class, and then all write letters and have them sealed and delivered. We could teach one game, like 31, or Goose (everybody already knows how to play bocce ;-) ). Dance would be hard because of the uneven ground, but I'm sure we could teach one English Country (or and Extreme Terrain version of Contapasso? ;-) ). We could do a play read-through schedualled as a 'class'. And/or storytelling, or a group discussion schedualled so that people could prepare something. (I've also like the idea of having a hat of Rennaissance discussion topics that people could just pick from for smoozing and general ice-breaker conversations. :-) ). I'd want the party to be continual, though, and not have 'classes' take over. Ideal, to my mind, would have it be a "happening", living playspace and not have it just be a classroom setting.
More thoughts, my wonderful creative peeps?
Must get some work done now...

Date: 2009-07-10 07:49 pm (UTC)W/AT: LOVE the idea of a whole day of classes. I think that Ysa's food class last weekend was part of a similar setup, where one camp hosted a whole day of classes on medieval household skills. But to keep the party/social atmosphere I think these can be advertised as "activities" rather than "classes" -- it sounds less structured that way?
I also think it would be fabulous if it continued through the evening. The cooks' camp could do a potluck dinner and we could dine en tableau (Company style) -- then retire into the "banquet room" (whatever tent space is being used) for sweets and unstructured playtime (games, singing/storytelling, or just hanging out).

Date: 2009-07-10 07:57 pm (UTC)I'd like to participate, but will have to find out just how silly that sounds with a 10-month old.
I can certainly be part of the letter-writing crew, and am hoping to have enough put together to talk drawing, painting, or miniatures. Or maybe even *do* a little sketching or painting.
I think that we'd need more space than we had for the last salon, so that activities can be better spread out. I found that the letter-writing overwhelmed the games at M-C War. Plus, the clothes need more space all by themselves :)
Wow, I just had a picture of a small "courtyard" surrounded by nicely-decked out pavilions with a potted garden in the middle. I don't think my guy would go for transporting live plants, though.

An issue that I'll have to work is doing the 16th C Day and taking care of Stallarifansk. They are good people, but this will not be thier cup of tea and I want them to not think I'm abandoning them. Don't know how all this will influence our camp location/layout. It's OK, we've got a year to figure it all out. :-)

Date: 2009-07-10 09:37 pm (UTC)And, uh, not to beat around the bush or anything, but why would they resent (be abandoned by) you having your fun? They want you to be happy, too, no?

Date: 2009-07-10 09:44 pm (UTC)It doesn't, of course, although at first I did consider hosting it out of the Palazzo. But I think your previous post was spot on in that we will need a lot of room and I'm guessing the Palazzo would be to small anyway. I think if transportation and set up could be worked out the best thing would be to take up the kind offer for the Belatrix pavillion.
No, I don't think they'd in any way shape or form resent my having fun. I just want to do the best job I can for J/S and his people. It will all be fine. :-)

Date: 2009-07-10 08:11 pm (UTC)Something to add to your Things to Do list for that -- make sure that you (1) camp in some place that's easy to get to and conspicuous, and (2) give the A&S table good directions and a mini-map.

Date: 2009-07-10 09:34 pm (UTC)If we have big Bellatrix, then maybe the play area can be in/around/near the rest of the A&S stuff.
Putting it on a main road might work. Or, set up near the fighting. There's noting like the sounds of dozens of laughing and happy people to inspire!
