Party Post -- Play Read Throughs!
Jun. 16th, 2009 04:26 pmPoking my head up from work for a little Steingrim Birthday Party (Friday night at AT/W, folks!) planning and promotion. :-)
As longtime readers know, I'd like to have read-throughs of some of the old Westermark/ Gerhardt von Nordflammen Plays at the Party. Most of you, however, don't remember these plays, which were (mostly) created and performed in the early 1980's. Therefore I hereby urge you all to check them out at:
http://www.thewestermark.org/history/Gerhardt_Folio1.pdf
and
http://www.thewestermark.org/history/Gerhardt_Folio2.pdf
As you can tell from the link these are .pdf copies of Gerhardt's First and Second Folios, where many of his works were collected back in the '80s. It makes the plays not as easy to access as it would be if they were available as individual links, but they are well worth the effort. :-) The old Westermark Player plays were mostly very silly SCA/West Kingdom satires, with some historical farces and a few more serious plays (done as the Players got better at, you know, acting... ;-) ).
I'll be bringing The Queen Tail (First Folio, p. 53 -- erotic mooing, which I'm still hearing about, 29 years after the fact ;-) ), and The Steingrim Saga (Second Folio, p. 49). Other fun things to check out are Paul! (FF, p. 112 -- This is a silly-pseudo Greek tragedy done with Masks, and isn't really about His Grace Paul anymore but is still valid about people being trapped by their own image.) And A California Vacuum Salesman in the BOG Court (SF, p. 49) still has some things to say about the SCA. There's a lot of Progressive People's Feudalist United Front propaganda that still fun to read as well. ;-)
Bottom line: Read-throughs can be a very fun party activity, and it will all go even better if people look at the play beforehand. So go check it out! You'll be entertained, I assure you. ;-)
Ah, the memories...
