My car died out from under me today. Suddenly the accellerator stopped working. Got over to the side of the road, and then the car would not start at all. Thank the diety of your choice that it happened where there was cell phone reception.

AAA, a tow truck, much waiting for Owen to be able to pick me up from the fix-it place, and now I'm home. Gillian is turning out Brandee today, I can borrow Owen's car tomorrow morning and all day Sunday, and I'm paying to have Brandee turned out Monday. By COB Monday I'm *hoping* whatever is wrong is fixed (the tow truck driver opined it might be "the coil").

Think good thoughts for me and the car, folks. I can not afford to buy a car right now!

That happened to me once. It was my alternator. It sucked, but it wasn't too awful - about $600 once all was said and done.

When my Buick stopped like that while actually driving down the road it was the serpentine belt breaking. Coasted to a stop at the roadside. No further engine activity, no starter, nothing. If it's the serpentine it's not too awful an expense to replace it. Just make sure they check the pulleys too... for me one month later it happened a second time. Turned out the pulley was wobbling, or slipping or something, and cut/wore through the belt again. Good luck!

A coil sounds reasonable. Not uncommon on Hondas of this vintage and mileage. Not a big deal to fix, either.

Have you experienced any hesitation or lack of power when accelerating hard, or when climbing a steep hill? Difficulty starting when it's wet outside?

Fingers crossed it's something minor!

Sorry the phone cut you off earlier - silly BART.
