One of our Oerthan horse-people posted this link to the WK EQ list. It is super cool and worth watching:

Now *that's* how I'd like to see people ride our games. ;-) And it's nice to see the Spanish horses get to show off -- their strength at "compression" is not as appreciated in modern dressage, which favors the warmbloods and thier extension capabilities.

A brief Brandee/Barn update: Brandee's pretty much been on vacation for almost a week and a half. Between my schedual and my being sick and my trip north I hadn't ridden for 1.5 weeks at least, and Brandee had not been ridden since last Monday. She's gotten out every day, just not ridden. Anyway I rode her last night and between her being crabby (possibly in heat -- hard to tell with her) and heavy in the hands/bargy and me having to remember how to ride it was a bad night. But tonight it was all good. Brandee was back to her well behaved self and I got my position back and we had a really good ride. Go figure.

Life is what it is right now, and I know that it will all be OK, but I still worry a little about Brandee. She's gone down from 2 training rides a week to one, which has to double as my lesson. And for the next month or so I can't ride as much as usual because of everything else going on. Marguerite, of course, is not riding while pregnant, and who knows what will happen when she has 2 small children to take care of. Brandee's been doing so well and has such good muscle on her, I hate to see her lose ground. I love my paint princess, and I want her to get on as well as she deserves. Sigh. I know, I'm a neroutic horse mom...

Truly beautiful! The horse seemed to be really enjoying it too. What a lovely gait.

nothing neurotic to it in my mind...ponies are happiest and healthiest with regular work (physical and mental) and regular routine.

you want whats best for your girl and that sounds like responsible horse ownership to me.

but then I'm a bit biased :)

I'm horse shopping for the first time since losing my boy... that video was beautiful. I feel like taking out a line of credit to get a "Spanish" horse. Was that horse in the video an Andalusian?

I believe it is a Lustitano (sp?), according to the comments on UTube.

Ya know, my old schoolmaster, Jokie of Blessed Memory, was an Appy that was built just like a Spanish horse. He was great at lateral work and trained to 4th level, but could not compete at that level because he could not produce the extention judges are looking for. Which is all to say that you might find a more common breed of horse with a good head that just happens to be built like a Spanish horse. ;-)

Best of luck with your search!

Ah yes! The Western/Mexican/Spanish/Portuguese working school is by far my favorite. And it is also much closer to Medieval chivalric equitation than is English--which happens to be the subject of my paper this week at Kalamazoo! Thanks for the timely video! :)

I agree. I'm hoping that some of the games we are playing at Coronet encourage said behavior.
