First off, let's all give a Big Huzzah for [livejournal.com profile] acanthusleaf, who finally finished the Coronet of Doom. OK, maybe that's not a good name. Let's call it the Coronet of Artistic Victory Over Artistic Challenges and Murphy's Law. OK, that's not too pithy, so let's just call it my beautiful new coronet:

It is pretty fragile -- I've had to put 2 seed pearls back on already, but now I think I know how to prevent that to some extent. But OMG it is so beautiful! Thanks to all of you that made it possible, and thanks again to Morgan for taking it on in the first place.

It is a little big on my head, so I'll have to sew some bit of padding in there. And now I've got to finish something to wear it with...

Yesterday morning I took the career personality/interest tests from the consultant [livejournal.com profile] sassycat8 recommended. I've now got an appointment for a phone consultation on Wednesday afternoon to go over the results. At least one of the results struck me as funny; I'll write about that later.

Today was a Spa Day for Brandee, so for a brief shining moment she was sparkly clean:

Progress has been made on the J/S's Norlund No.63-thingie. Discovered last week that it would be very easy to make this look like a clown outfit with the wrong choice of buttons. (Also made me see how that look could have evolved). Now I'm making little same-fabric ball buttons -- God/Goddess/Cosmic Muffin help me. Got the sleeves all finished except for buttons and buttonholes. Got the front linen stabilizer sewn in and now am finishing the front. Still to do is the collar, the hem, buttons and buttonholes. Next one I do I'm going to line (so I don't have to do all this flatfelling) and I'm going to use purchased buttons, dammit!

Salon in 3 weeks! Some of you should expect a call from me soon confirming stuff. Right now it looks like we are light on food and drink.
Collegium next weekend should be fun, since I'm sharing a room with [livejournal.com profile] etaine_pommier, [livejournal.com profile] dave_orphal, and [livejournal.com profile] sarahbellem. The week after that, while most of you are at Beltane, I'll be up north for some sweetie-time, and the week after that is the Salon. Ack! Oh well, I'm sure it will all be fine. :-)

Oh, that is lovely!

The padding I wear under my circlet is a briliant idea I stole from this Barony's Founding Baroness. Take a nice thick piece of wool of the sort that never frays, the same length as the circumference of your circlet, do a round rolled hem on one side, sew the ends shut. Make the height of the fabric appropriate to the size of your circlet--do you want the fabric to show behind those lovely jewels? or do you want it short and only behind the base of it? This technique makes for a very, very comfortable fit, since the metal sits on the round rolled bit, not the skull...

I can bring biscotti to the Salon! Possibly other goodies too... depends on how the upcoming cooking experiments go and how wiped out I am after Beltane (assuming I can still go!). I'll also bring a bottle or two of lambrusco, 'cause now that I know it's period for 16th c I will be bringing it to pretty much every event in the foreseeable future. ;-)

The coronet is lovely - and it's going to look amazing with your 14th c. stuff!

Brandee is just the cutest thing with hooves.

Re: 14C clothing, yes. Never put yellow buttons on any other color but yellow. Never put other color buttons on yellow. No red on white, either. Actual metal buttons are fine, and self-fabric buttons are fine, but the color contrast can look pretty dorky to modern eyes. Also, the smaller the buttons the better. I learned these guidelines the embarrassingly hilarious way.

How about the Coronet of Awesomeness? The Coronet of Incredibleness? The Coronet of Toulouseness? ;)

I knew the coronet was going to be really pretty, but I was wrong.

It's fabulous!

When will you be wearing the coronet? I'd like to get some photos for her website (I'm the webmaster.).

Morgan did mention you planned on taking some photos. I'm planning on its first appearance being the upcoming Mists/Cynagua War, which is next weekend. Next (down here in the West, anyway) will be June Crown, which is much more convenient for you. :-)
