Monday morning ramblings
Mar. 23rd, 2009 08:30 am-- Sounds like it was a very good March Crown. :-) Lots of good things happened. I'm particuarly happy to hear that: the QA display was a big success, Cordelia got offered her Pelican,
sarabellem became
j_i_m_r's apprentice (welcome to the family!), Etaine and J!'s roundtable on Renown went well, Alden and Constantina should be a good reign (AnTir/West will rock, people!), and no one had to pack up wet. Both sorry and not sorry I missed it.
-- Not sorry I missed it because I had a productive weekend. On top of getting a bunch of errands and chores done I made a dent in J/S's Norlund No. 63 tunic-thingie. Got it all cut out of the gold linen twill, sewed up the back peices and front pieces, and got all of the back seams flat felled. Tonight at Sewing I'll work on flat felling the front peices.
Two sewing comments. Wow, that linen twill is stretchy as all get out. I'm glad I did my usual thing of marking the seam lines on every single peice, because matching seamline to seamline has proved to be essential with this fabric. And my hands and back just can't take long stints of handwork anymore. This is why I got chores done. I could tell when my body was starting to have problems, so I would get up and do something else for a bit to give my hands/back a break. Ah, the joys of middle age...
-- Brandee remembered who the vet was! She's had shots before and never seemed to notice. But the last time she saw the vet he knocked her out to work on her teeth, and that apparently was a Memorable Unpleasant Experiance. Brandee reacted as soon as she saw the Dr. with wide eyes and a tense stance. She swung around when he stepped towards her. Now, this being Brandee, this was not a big dramatic thing. But *any* sort of reaction from Brandee like this is a big suprize. When told No she stood there just fine for her shots. But when the Dr. went to look at the pore on her back that periodically abcesses (it's fine now, but it's never completely gone away so I wanted him to look at it) she swung around again. Of course, with another No she stood there and let him look, but she was not happy about it.
This is Spend Money on Brandee time. Saturday is was spring vaccinations, tomorrow she has her farrier appointment, and Wednesday is her chiroparctic appointment. Yup, she's my pretty pretty paint princess. ;-)
-- Looking at the calander I see I'll be missing a lot of West Kingdom events this year. Not surprising; I knew going in to the year that this would be a year of retreating and restructuring. An element of that is going north to be with my sweetie, and part of that is schedualling attendence of events in both the West and An Tir.
Didn't make March Crown, won't make Mists Coronet because I'll be north. I'll be a Collegium Occidentalis. I won't be at Beltane (sweetie time!) I will be at Mists/Cynagua War (Salon!). Then I'l be at Grand Thing over the Memorial Day Weekend.
In June I'll be at A&S and June Crown. Then at the end of June I head up north for over a week for J/S's B-day and An Tir/West War. In August I'm not going to Purgatorio Coronation (in Alaska -- have fun people if you go!), but we will be at Sport of Kings. Right at the beginning of Sept. I'm back north for September Crown.
October is up in the air -- neither J/S or I have plans/tickets yet. If J/S wants to go to GWW then I may beg off on October Crown. Sept-Oct gets crazy with events, so I'm thinking of picking and chosing those more closely aligned with my interests if it's just me and not me and my sweetie. This would mean choosing Mists Bardic (9/26) and Fall Collegium (Oct 24) over Oct. Crown. If The Usual South Bay suspects are fighting in Fall Mists Coronet I'll be more inclined to go. However, that means the only Laurel meeting I'd make this year would be June Crown. Hmm...
Edited to add: Oh, yes, and there's a certain Elvis Wedding In Vegas I'll be attending in early August. :-)
-- I hear
back40joules brought 14th C-related books for me to borrow to Crown. Thank You!!! That was very thoughtful.
helblonde has them and I'll pick them up tonight. Again, it was very kind of you to remember, and I apologize for not being there this weekend to look at them.
OK, gotta get some work done now.

Date: 2009-03-23 04:18 pm (UTC)RE: October Crown, don't know if you've heard yet, but Esfenn is running it, and it's going to be at Ed Levin. Which means you don't even have to *go* go, you can just show up and schmooze. :->

Date: 2009-03-24 06:12 am (UTC)To be honest, it will be a while before you see me in 14th C dress. J/S' new wardrobe is my top priority, and we all know how fast I sew... :-/
