Heading out to Estrella tomorrow morning with [livejournal.com profile] misagillian and [livejournal.com profile] leohtulf. Many thanks to them for, again, hauling me off to war. :-) Of course, the best part for me will be picking up my sweetie from the Phoenix airport in a little more than 48 hours -- squee! The plan is to get to the site Wed. morning, set up all the stuff, probably shop for food, then pick up J/S from the airport. We'll leave Sunday and get back sometime Monday.

This will be my 2nd Estrella, and it's shaping up to be very different from last year. First off, I'll be staying in my tent instead of a RV Of Joy And Salvation. (Shared an RV with [livejournal.com profile] acanthusleaf last year; given the Epic Mud And Rain last year it was worth every freaking penny.) I'm hoping the weather will be better this time. Last week weather.com was predicting sunny days Wed-Sat with temps in the high 60s to mid 30's -- not bad compared to last year. Another difference will be that there will be fewer people I know. Last year we had a big encampment (at least 12 people, plus Gerstan and his young squires). This year a bunch of people are not going, so our little encampment will be Gillian and Leohtulf and me and J/S camping, and [livejournal.com profile] helblonde and [livejournal.com profile] moriven and Marguerite and Brian hanging out but staying offsite. Last year I dropped a fair chunk of change, and this year I'll be window-shopping only. :-/

And, obviously, this year I'm with J/S, so my reality has significantly shifted. I hear they fight at wars. Odds are I'll be closer to that then I've been before ;-). I know some An Tir folks will be there as well, and I'm looking forward to spending some more time with them, as well has hanging out with all my lovely Western friends. Huzzah for combining the West and An Tir parties!

So, wish us all good luck and safe travel. See y'all either there or on the flip side! :-)

You are the worst 'hat-chaser' ever :)

Have an excellent time!

Hm, I wonder if I qualify as an "accidental hat-chaser" ;-)

Yup, that would be you my dear.
... tangent to go with your new icon, wouldn't His Grace's banner look cool if the gold rectangles had red crosses of Toulouse in them. Then it would be, oh look, Genvieve is climbing all over Steingrim :-) ... so what else is new? :-)

rumor has it that there has been a ton of rain this week so the site is very veyr muddy. rubber boots are recommended.... (and I would also recommend a heavy belt or something else to keep your skirts a bit shorter)

I've actually found my waterproof ariats to be a real lifesaver in wet muddy uneven ground in the dark. the steel shank, high ankles and lovely happy ariat footbed saved my feet last Estrella I was at! (plus, they're black and pretty non agregious in the dark :))

ooo, I'm kinda jealous! have a lovely time!

Good to know. I packed boy-clothes (tunics and pants), along with my waterproof Ugg boots. I learned my lesson from last year. I have to stop by the barn on my way to Gillian's tonight, so I'll borrow Brandee's scraper from the tack box; that should help get the mud off boots.

Boy I hope it with dry out some before we get there. At least last year we had everything set up before the mud happened. I have visions of tent stakes not holding... :-0

Think dry thoughts for us! Please!

I'm on site now and can attest to the mud but it is already better than last night. More rain is expected tonight and Sat-Sun though so the boots will be needed. The boot scrapers is a good idea. I grabbed a putty knife when we went to the store today.

See you wednesday.

I sent off two of my friends with instructions to sleep with a wool blanket under them and the blankets to do it with. Wet chill makes me shiver right here at home in sympathy.
