Musings on 2007:

Not the best year, IMHO, although it wasn't all bad for me, personally.

The main thought that I have about 2007 was that there was too much death. For me, of course, the worse death was Teresa's at the end of September. But the year started with Aja's death and I know she was dear to several of you, and I still wish I'd have known her better. Then there was Gaius, and that touched some others of you. On top of that there was the death of my ex-s brother (not the one I work with, obviously), and just before that that brother's wife. So, yeah, death is what leaps to mind when I think about 2007.

Next is the memory that I spent a huge chunk of the year being sick. I came down with a super bad cold on Jan.1 and got sicker at 12th Night. I missed a lot of major SCA events because of upper-respitory sickness as well. And then there was that whole burst appendix thing in June. 2007: the first year I ever had to check into a hospital. :-P

Another thing about 2007 was all the unemployment. Too many of my friends got laid off. By the end of the year my own continuing employment had also come into question.

2007 wasn't uniformily terrible. Good things happened: g0atface and cathyn got together, the Treblemakers continued to get better and stronger,

I had a few small personal triumphs. I got my pavillion painted, sewed the interior stuff, Ivar made the poles, and I was able to have a nice pavillion kick-off party/Salon at Beltane. I autocratted my first Principality event (the only thing I'd autocratted before were equestrian events). I got some sewing done. I got to have 2 days with the Tudor Tailor folks and have started to incorporate some of the stuff they talked about. I now have Horace the minivan for a tourney vehicle. My riding improved significantly, and Brandee is now looking like a dressage pony instead of just a cow pony. And my b-day at Disneyland was the highlight of my holiday season. :-)

And then there was the School for the Courtier. We had some success in the beginning, which was good. But now no one seems to have time -- and finding dates that people can do has been a non-starter. Dates in the beginning of 2008 are also problematic. January is already booked solid, February is busy and there's Estrella. I'll probably have to work the weekend before that so that I can get the appropriate days off. Add to that I'm going to be HRH's / soon to be HM Mari's Laurel Councilor for her Queen's Artisans and that is already taking time (in a good cause, of course. ;-) ).
All I can think to do at this point for the Courtier School is plan a big 16th C Salon for Beltane. Given my current finances I won't be able to have my own sunshade, but I can probably get my hands on one. ([livejournal.com profile] learnteach, what was the situation with Teresa's old sunshade Trouble?.) FYI: Beltane with be at the sheep ranch again -- lovely site.

Have a happy New Year's Eve, everybody, and may 2008 bring health and joy to you and yours. :-)

2008 is going to rock, or I'm going to kick its little butt back to 1974.

And, um, thank you! But individually many of us still had a REALLY SUCKY YEAR. :->

I'm working on an LJ year-end posting, and I was going to use that exact same title.

I raise a glass to your having a way better 2008.

A most excellent LJ post title!!!

No, it is "THE" title for 2007's last day. This year was not a good year. I hope next year is a better year for all of us... and yet, I don't seem to be able to get past the faces of friends I will ever see again.
