Yesterday started with the barn. I haven't been writing much about Brandee and the barn lately because there hasn't been much new to say. Brandee is doing really well and my riding continues to improve, yadda yadda. Saturday I Brandee had a chance to run around before getting saddled up and she seemed to appreciate that bunches -- when I got on her she was great! Wanted to come round pretty much right away. :-)

Then it was noon and time to meet my compadres at Flames. Met up with misagillian, leohtulf, morivan, and helblonde.

After lunch was the main event for the day: a trip to Poppy to say goodbye and to take advantage of the store clearance sale. Traffic *sucked* on 880, so it took a long time to get there; many thanks to moriven for driving us all. Once there we ran into Kira and hrj (great minds think alike, obviously).
I picked up enough tropic-wieght dark brown wool for an Elizabethan (see Tudor Tailor p.79). Also picked up 2 yds of a gold transparent silk organza, 1 yd of a silver-ish organza, and 3 yds of a lovely blue herringbone twill wool that I'm going to make into Bubba Genevieve/Saxon/Rohan trousers. This latter material met with hrj's approval and I believe she bought some as well. :-)

I will really miss Poppy. It feels like I'm losing a friend. I started going to Poppy in the late '70s/early '80s, when it was just below Shattack by the main BART station entrance. (Heck, I remember Kaufmans in Berkeley, too.) Poppy has always had a different selection from StoneMountain or the stores in SF. I typically had luck with their lightweight wools and specialty silks. I got some great partlet fabric from those folks over the years. Poppy was always a very pleasant place to shop as well. Stonemountain makes me feel a bit claustrophobic; they way they are structured everything feels crowded and that makes it harder for me to find things. Sigh. Like I said I will miss Poppy, and I am mourning their demise. :-(

After 2 hours at Poppy we were all thirsty so we headed off to another institution in that general vicinity, Fenton's Ice Cream. They were crowded, but it was fine and a nice break.

Headed back to helblonde's, then misagillian and I headed out to Dublin to catch Hairspray, which we'd been wanting to see since it came out. So Fun! You have to like musicals to like this movie, but we thought it was great! The lyrics are particuarly hi-larious. I smiled so much for so long that my cheek muscles hurt. After the movie we ran accross the parking lot to the Barns and Noble to buy the soundtrack. But, apparently, everyone else does the same thing. and so they were sold out. :-(

Today I should clean but instead I'm going to sew. I'm going to pick up my off-white underdress (again) and see how far I can get with it. This dress will eventually be the underdress for the Moroni Lady in Rose outfit, but it will be great as an underdress to wear with the pink ropa helblonde made me. :-)

OK I'm off to sew!

Bummer. I've kind of been out of the loop so I didn't know that Poppy was closing. That is where we got the fabric for my wedding dress and many SCA outfits. I always found what I was looking for and at a reasonable price. I guess I will have to start shopping for fabric in Seattle when I am there on vacation.

After taking you and your gang on so many fabric shopping tours it was so nice of you to forget to ask if I wanted to go with you to Poppy. Thanks :-(

You must not have seen helblonde's LJ post. She posted publically about this trip, and you did not respond. The post came out Thursday or Friday.

I'm so sorry you missed out - [livejournal.com profile] helblonde hatched the idea over lunch with me last week and posted it thereafter, which is how [livejournal.com profile] callistotoni found out about it too. It wasn't even a [livejournal.com profile] callistotoni-instigated outing. I was actually thinking you would be one of the folks who would respond, since you have been so kind as to take us out on fabric shopping tours in the past. I guess we rely a great deal on LJ to get information out quickly and to a wide audience.
