...even though a lot of you, my LJ Friends, have left for the West/An Tir War.

-- *So* looking forward to Ratatouille opening! :-) A foodie movie with cute rats! In France! Pixar! I'm so there...

-- I'm off my medication now. Feeling better, but not up to 100 percent. Still tired and lacking stamina. Also not up to heavy-duty housecleaning yet. :-/

-- Crazy amount of sewing got done these last two weeks. Red petticote (a bodice with skirt thing, mind you) is done except for the hem. Hopefully when maestrateresa comes over this weekend to sew she can mark my hem for me and I can complete the thing. Funny thing: This thing is highly documentable; given the material I made it out of it is upperclass underwear. But the thing looks like one of those bodice/skirt/laceupthefront things you can get from catalogs like Master Replicas and such. Part of me thinks "30 years of costuming and it all comes back to the beginning." ;-) Also have done, except for the hem, a new low-necked smock. Hand flat-felled seams and hems. Go me. Testament to large blocks of time and my personal sewing obsession.

-- Speaking of costumes, there is a Tolkien party in my future, being held by some friends of mine in early November. So I'm taking this as an excuse to make the Rohan outfit I've wanted to make for years (inspiration can be found here: http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Hobbit/Merry/MArmor.htm). I'm starting with the Anglo Saxon outfit they sell at Historic Enterprises, and adding a celtic-y horsie motif on the front. I'll all a green cape and an Eowyn sword (as absurd as the idea of me and a sword is -- I'm thinking I'd be more of the Rohan Libraian than warrior ;-) ). I want to get some brown fencing gloves and paint the cuffs to match the front motif. If I get *really* ambitious (which is unlikely) I'd love to make matching painted leather half-chaps (i.e. greaves) . Must figure out a realistic way to get the motif on (embroider? Using what? Applique the green parts and embroider edges? I only have until November and I've got plenty of other stuff I need to make that I'll get more use out of).

-- I went to work for the first time today. I'm now up too late. Work will be busy, since we have a customer visit in the middle of July. :-/

-- Monday Marguerite picked me up and took me out to see Brandee, and then I got to hang out our our regular Monday night sewing. Misagillian drove me home. Many thanks to them; it was good to see people (and Brandee of course).

-- My plan is to ride Brandee on Saturday. We will be mostly just walking. It will be good to get back into the saddle.

-- A&S EQ plans are coming along. We have 4 classes, which is quite respectable.

-- Must get back to the School for the Courtier. Aastg, could you send me a supply list so I can let people know what to bring and/or set up class supply packages for folks? I need to get back to finding a place to have a dance class as well. As it stands I don't think it would be a good idea to try to pull off a tavern at Oct Crown. I think it would be better to wait until Beltane and have something better defined and prepared. I also think it would be nice if we could sorta kinda work towards Courtiers Do 12th Night skill set. Dance is key to this. Still thinking about this concept. Many of the School folks are also in the Golden Stag Players, so I find it doubtful that Courtiers could make any sort of a unified show at 12th Night. On the other hand, there should be a ball and some sort of Masque, and it would be good for the School to have some sort of showing at or support of that.

Must go to bed now.

I recall a scene in 'Railway Children' where the kids have to stop a train before it heads over a broken track/bridge. The girls strip off their petticoats and use them as flags. It helped, because they were red. ;)

Ya know, I met her a while back at one of stella_nordica's Orphan Thanksgiving gatherings (2 years ago?). I had really enjoyed seeing her stuff that she posted on LJ -- she was on goldenstag's Friends list. But I came away from my conversations with her then that she was not interested in pursuing new acquaintances, even those that lived near by. Regretable; she seemed like a cool person.

I wish I could say that comes as a surprise to me -- she is a cool person, but she's hard to get close to.

I'm sure Brandee has missed you...

Mostly walking is good. Good luck on Saturday.

I'm riding my boy today for the first time in three months. I'm so excited to get back in the saddle. I'm sure I'll do some walking and then transition back into a soft trot. I shoulder is feeling healthy and as long as Derk doesn't plant me into the ground by way of my right shoulder, all will be well.

Best wishes.

So is the red petticote made of wool or linen? I've been thinking linen would more useful in this climate.

I made it out of tropical wieght wool, with linen canvas interlining and linen lining in the bodice. I'm about to cut out another one from some red linen I have on hand.
