It looks like the next meeting of the School for the Courtier will be Sunday July 15, and will be a 16th C handwriting class taught by aastg. Not set in stone, mind you, but very probable at this point. Yay!

Now I'm trying to figure out a way to have a dance class. I found 3 dance studios in Livermore. I called two. The first one does not rent their space out. The second one was very willing to talk about it. The guy I talked to was going to talk to the other partner this afternoon; he sounded very positive. The key, I'm sure, will be how much they want to charge. :-/

Since we'll be meeting in July I thought a good time to meet again would be in September, which would put School stuff at every-other month (my thinking id that this would not be *too* much everybody's full scheduals). But the September WK Calender is *full*. Running a class opposite Ducal Prize is a possiblity, but that *is* a holiday weekend and folks might just want to enjoy a solid, uncommitted 3-day weekend. The second week in August was said by people on the School Yahoo group to be pretty free, but that might be too soon after the July class. What to do, what to do?

The three day weekend might be useful for some involved multi-day workshop.

I thought of a possible one ... Robert's doublet and trunk hose book; draft patterns, cut and sew clothes. Three days worth might get guys in nearly complete outfits. Are any of the gentlmen courtiers interested in these sorts of garments?

It's entirely possible, but I suspect that question is better asked on the Yahoo list rather then here since that is where most of them are. *smile*

Um...

...Not exactly what I meant. I didn't mean the *whole* weekend, just one day of it.

This is not to dismiss the idea completely, however. But I have my trepidations. I had one experiance with a room of non-experianced people where I tried to get them to take measurements and draft patterns, and, honestly, none of them were able to do it. In point of fact, they were frustrated more than anything else.

And then there is me. I don't do well with a group of people trying to learn something sewing-related. The way my brain works is I have to work one-on-one in quiet environments.

I know one School member is learning to sew, but he wants to do early 16th C Swiss. Another participant definately wants to do the Robert Trump/Alcega style, but he owns the Trump book already and his wife is the one sewing for him.

Again, I'm not dismissing this idea. You've definately got me thinking about it. But I would have to think about it, and have to get more experiance working with the Trump system. I've read it carefully, but I have not actually *done* it. And I'd want to do all the hand-stiching tailoring techniques, and that takes time.

Maybe try to tackle this next season?

Thoughts...

You don't necessarily need a dance studio. You need space that doesn't have an undue amount of outside noise - though the Morris Dance troupe that shows up at BART practice puts up with trains roaring by.

A city or county park - in reasonable weather. A flat, level area with shade would be optimal.

A church, school or library multipurpose room.
