Boring me

I haven't been posting because there just has not been that much to write about.

Barn: Like always, Brandee is doing well. The only drama in her life has been an infected fly bite on her back. She's gotten more trail rides recently, courtesy of Marguerite, and that has helped her little brain. My riding is, like always, getting slowly better. Oh, and after exploding hair these last two weeks I think Brandee is nearly shed out. Never kiss a shedding horse, trust me...
Cute interchange at the barn: Background: We have barn swallows -- a lot of them -- and some of them nest over where we tack up. So Monday I'm walking into the barn and I see Jen, a teeny-bopper who I've sort of watched grow up these last few years, tacking up her horse Cash. After say hello I ask: "How is Cash doing?" Jen: "He's scared because every time a bird poops on his head he spooks." OK, *I* found that amusing. :-)

Tonight I'm heading up to Sacremento with Matt and Crystal for Collegium. I'm looking forward to spending some time with M&C because I hardly ever see them anymore. C is picking me up from work and we are will have dinner at a local tapas place before heading north. I *love* tapas. :-)
Saturday we'll be on site nice and early to help with whatever needs doing. I'm going to wear my black linen cotehardie so that I'll be ready for action. :-) Well, that and it will keep me cool and it's easy to throw on in the morning. I confess, though, that I've made such a brave noise about 16th C stuff that I feel guilty whenver I don't show up to things wearing 16th C dress. But it takes time and once I'm in most of my costumes I'm not as able to help other people, so there you are.
I do hope I get to attend barone_antonio's class. I'm jonesn' to talk about The Courtier, and how I see my own desire to "maske" the the perfect courtier in my own experiance of the SCA. Fun to think about idealization and how much one can make it come true. Artifice and Self-creation vs the Natural Man (in the 18th C sense) and "being true to one's self". Renaissance urbanity vs Knights in Shining Armor. I love these questions, but then I obsess about this stuff sometimes ( Must. Turn. Brain. Off. ) Hey, it brings me joy, what can I say? :-)

Oh, and I'm also kinda sorta hoping to get some help with my calligraphy Saturday. I'm bringing my writing stuff, just in case. If I work gate I'll miss Elie's beginner class; otherwise I'll take it. Or maybe I can pigeon-hole ermine_rat or aastg to give me some pointers that will help me (*especially* with getting more even. Even when I make lines my slants and sizes don't match very well. :-/ ).

M&C and I will drive home after the feast and I'll grab my car and head home myself. Then on Sunday it's the first gathering of the School of the Courtier. I've spent most of my free time this last week cleaning the house. Maria, the housemate that recently moved used to clean as part of her rent, but now it's just me. Given all the SCA events recently and the fact that I don't get home most nights until 9 PM the house was a disaster. But I've gotten a handle on things so the place is now presentable -- *whew*.
I have high hopes for the School, but, again, in my heart of hearts I know that all one can do is put stuff out there and see what other people do with it. Should be fun, though. :-)

OK, back to work...

Ma chere Vicomtesse, life is too short for guilt! There is nothing wrong with taking a day off from the 16th century if that's what floats your galleon.

While Jehanne has been known to tell a story she "learned from my friend Saionji-hime," I'm afraid of the disruption of the space-time continuum should Saionji ever pick up the hurdy gurdy and attempt to play it. ;-D

Hardly anyone recognises you in the cotehardie. You can be *incognito*. Who is that masked calligrapher?

That sounds like a great trip. I like M&C a lot, and enjoy their company more and more as time goes on, and I get to know them better. We'll be at Collegium, and I have a sneaking suspicion that you wouldn't have to meep too loudly at [livejournal.com profile] aastg to get her to help you with the calligraphy. <g>

I usually have plenty of time at these things, so come by when you're ready.
