The good news is that I have a contract to work on right now. The bad news is that the work is rather boring -- a lot of cutting and pasting of text. :-/ My brain, therefore, is more focused on me and my sweetie and SCA stuff.

I'm really in the mood to sew right now. I've cut out a black linen version of the Norlund No.63-thingie, with light linen lining. I tweeked to neckline and I hope that solves the problem that the gold linen twill verson had. I also started on a linen coif for J/S, the I draped on him at Grand Thing. I'd like to make 2 of those, 'cause they are always useful.
Other 14th C stuff I'd like to make him are at least one wool cote, a couple of hoods, and some braies and hose (which I've never made before). Tempted just to go to Historic Enterprises for those. Need to figure out the cost/benefit of buying versus making. OK, I know I'll make them eventually because it's a skill I should acquire, but time is a factor.

And then there's sewing 14th C stuff for me. Thank goodness for [livejournal.com profile] etaine_pommier, I was able to give her a little money and she's making a cotehardie pattern for me and putting together one out of the gold linen twill, to the handwork stage. I'll need to bind the edges of that thing with black, though, 'cause that gold does *not* look good right next to my skin. :-P J/S bought me some blue linen from Pastisch at Grand Thing, so I'm planning on using the pattern to make that up. Also, I want to get an overdress for the gold linen made out of some black wool broadcloth I have. And, oh yeah, I need to make at least 2 14th C smocks to go under stuff. Must win lottery to get more time to sew! But, still, my personal sewing priority is J/S's stuff, at least through getting the black linen No.63-thingie done. I am planning on getting my gold dress finished by (during?) the War, though.

Super-duper looking forward to my next trip north and AT/West War. Not much further accomplished on party planning except for getting in the Stallarifannsk land request in yesterday, the "preferred" deadline. And I *may* have convinced [livejournal.com profile] joycie_wilde to come to the War -- yay!
Those of you who know me well know that I'm not big on cooking. But every once and a while I get the cooking urge. Now is one of those times. I think it's rooted in my current "learn about the 14th C to create a cohesive camping/historicplayspace setup for me and J/S" obsession, as well as a serious case of 'nesting'. ;-) Last Sunday I got to play in [livejournal.com profile] j_i_m_r 14th C appropriate cookbooks. Now I want to do some menu planning for the War. Since I'll be up at J/S's place 6 days before the War, I plan to cook and freeze stuff. Thinking making sauces would be a good approach, because those can be served with meat we cook on site. (Hey, [livejournal.com profile] joycebre, can you send me your redaction/recipe for that fabulous green sauce you tried out on us at sewing night a month or so ago? Thanks!) I have a wonderful redaction for Tart for an Ember Day that Cordelia did, and I plan on making that as well. There's a cheese "gnocci" recipe that I'd like to try, but that will take cooking on site. (Yes, that is something I should not be eating, but J/S saw the recipe and thought it sounded good. ;-) ).
In keeping with this food-theme, I also have a vision of putting out a nice, 14th C appropriate luncheon spread for J/S and his fighting peeps at the War (I *know* they break for lunch, they must!). I think it would be super cool to break out the lion aquamanille and have handwashing, too, before lunch. Mostly I'm thinking cold meats with condiments, along with bread and fruit. Hey, my foodie friends, are pickles period? Any other mineral-replacing period food suggestions?

On the Brandee front, things are going along just like they have been. She got her shoe back on, she's healthy, and she gets her chiropractic adjustment tomorrow. She's also getting a visit from [livejournal.com profile] ermine_rat and his son Zackery -- meeting them at the barn tomorrow afternoon. Should be fun. :-)

Weight-wise, still maintaining. Last week I was a pound under, this week it's a pound over, yadda yadda. Still journalling, which is key. Learning how to live with bouts of 'festive eating', followed by more austere recovery days. Weight loss has really aged my face though, I have to say. Gianetta warned me that it would take a year for my fat/mass to re-distribute, and it has really fallen out of my face, neck and chest. Oh well, still happier at this weight. Age will get you in the end, one way or another. :-/

Edited to add:
Had a lovely weekend with Juana and Ivar. Saturday after the barn Juana and I went to see the conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park (I'd never been), and then we met up with Ivar for dinner and Pixar's UP. I liked Up a lot -- made me cry, that's for sure. I think it held together better than WallE, but I didn't like it as much as Ratitoulli (which I *loved*!) or The Incredibles. And I think [livejournal.com profile] hrj makes a valid point in her review.

1) I just talked to my boss (they are giving us overhead $ again, so they are closely planning charging right now) and I committed to working the weekend of June Crown. So no June Crown/Feast for me. Just feels like the right thing to do, but I will be sorry to miss the feast. :-(

2) Well, I *have* been 14th C OCD girl lately. I've been reading the Cantabury Tales and just finished The Knight's tale. Super interesting in how renaissancy it is! There are Greek gods and godesses taking part, with no apologies for Christianity. I particually thought the description of the arena and temples that Thesus builds were interesting, as well has the description of the tournement itself. Anyone else interested in talking about this tale? We've got to do *something* while the fighting is going on at AT/W War, after all! ;-)
Since I'm skipping around in my 14th C literature, I also would like to share thoughts on the Tale of Griselda, while was still being talked about in the 16th C. If you don't know already, that's the last tale of the Decameron. Hm, maybe this would be a talking point for the Tavern at A&S. ;-)
