I now call upon the Great Social Network that is LJ! ;-)

I got an email from Oonagh saying that she and Helgi lost their digital camera at Mists Investiture on Nov. 10. Oonagh thinks what happened is that it got placed in someone else's basket that looked like their basket. The camera is a Panasonic Luminex, in a black camera bag, about the size of a deck of cards. She thinks it was misplaced in a basket that was "in the open cabinets in the hallway between the entrance and the "court room"."

Anyway, if you or anyone you know found a Panasonic Luminex digital camera please respond and I'll pass the information onto Oonagh. Or if you know Helgi and Oonagh you can, of course, go directly to them. :-)

I confess that it was my idea to see the Beowulf movie tonight in IMAX 3D with [livejournal.com profile] misagillian and [livejournal.com profile] leohtulf. I have a soft spot for Anglo Saxon stuff, and I can be pretty fond of action movies. I'd read the reviews, which have said that if one is going to see this movie they should see it in 3D.

I didn't hate it. In fact, it was pretty darn faithful to the original. They managed to work in the swimming contest, even. And I can go with the whole "sins of the fathers with Angela Joli woohoo" element. But, ya know, Beowulf the poem is not a story full of plot complications and character development, so the movie can't be expected to have much either.

Part of me wants to say that the movie Beowulf makes the movie 300 look like a Masterpiece Theater production, but that would be a tad unfair.

The art is problamatic but at times interesting. My biggest complaint is that it was not consistant and therefore not consistantly sucessful. I think it would have come off better if they had just done heavily-CGI'd live action. The problem was a mix between Shek-like people and a very realistic close-up Beowulf, as well as the Angela-Grendel's-mom. The horses looked and moved particualary bad and Shek-like. But they did some very pretty stuff with reflections, and the dragon was well done as well. So, yeah, an odd and jarring style mix.

At the end of the movie I turned to Gillian and said, Well, That was Beowulf, and she answered, yes, that was Beowulf alright. Before leaving each other we agreed that we'd just shared an 'experiance'. ;-)
