Books and Fabrics
Jan. 30th, 2007 09:32 amBooks: In answer to mermaidinblack's question, the book I bought on Elizabethan London is: Elizabeth's London, Everyday Life in Elizabethan London, Liza Picard, pub. 2003. I haven't really looked at it yet, but I suspect it's more "history lite" than down in the dirt academic.
The other book, which is definately academic, is Renaissance Clothing and the Materials of Memory, Ann Rosalind Jones and Peter Stallybrass. Looks good; has a chapter on the currency of clothing (which is a topic that was raised in the Book of Stuff), also has gender/clothing chapters and on period use of clothes on the stage.
Fabric: Sarabellam mentioned that she had just bought some fabric, so I checked out the vendor (an ebay store). Found the following in 8 and 12 yard lengths; also exists in different colors (several different greens, blush, white/silver, and a brighter red). I'm tempted, but I have so many outfits in my queue that I think I will pass this up. But I thought I'd pass it on to those of you that might be interested. Note that you don't have to bid on it, you can just "buy it now" as they say on Ebay.
