A ruff note
May. 2nd, 2006 12:13 amYesterday, with the help of g0atface, I got my standing ruff tacked into my dress (my old blue linen French dress that got altered). I still have to do some finishing work on it. Looks pretty cool, if I say so myself. However, it's out of proportion for the dress. I was looking at the pictures in QEWU, and I took the proportions from those engravings/drawings. But that dress is pretty simple, so it looks a bit much. It doesn't help that I put in some wide gold lacy-braid on the inside collar, a la the collars in the Moda book (reason: to hide the neck sweat/dirt that I know from experiance with accumulate.)
Luckily g0atface is loaning me her farthingale, which helps the overall look a lot. (Still need to replace my stolen farthingale--it's on the list...)
OK, y'all have been warned. I'll be wearing this ensamble at the Salon.
