Stressing out about Salon space.
May. 2nd, 2006 11:02 pmCut for those of you who really don't want to hear this.
I'm starting to really stress about the Salon space, primarily because I don't have direct control of the elements.
-- I can't get on site until Friday.
-- I don't own and I've never seen the sunshades that have been volunteered.
-- The Salon really needs to be on the eric, but it
---- is only going on Saturday;
---- is an unofficial event
and I find it impossible in my mind to justify the saving of a big chunk of space from Wednesday-on.
I heard from Marguerite tonight, and she is *stongly* urging me to find someone who will be on site Wed. and who is "agressive" enough to keep the space free. Her point is that those who are consorting will find it nigh onto impossible to play at the Salon if it's not on the Eric. She suggests that I contact the autocrat with dimensions. But I can't finalize the space in my head until I see what we are working with. If I ask for the ideal set-up--a U with the middle courtyard on the eric, that is too much eric frontage. The compomize I thought we'd work with, a U with Trouble as the eric frontage, Vigdis's sunshade running back 30 ft, with Kira's sunshade at the butt end, encloses the courtyard. Marguerite is of the opinion that this hides that activities and will discourage participation. I see her point, but it does minimize eric frontage.
I'm loathe to contact the autocrat, especially because what I think is ideal is unreasonable, and I'm not exactly sure what I should ask for. And I just am not convinced that I have a right to ask.
This is why I don't autocrat much. I'm just not good at this sort of thing, and I'm really not agressive enough to fight for stuff that I think is not fair to other people.

Given that - evetything is going to go very well. You are doing a great job and you are leagues ahead of many autocrats I know.

Date: 2006-05-02 05:02 pm (UTC)Eric frontage is first come first serve around here. Space is reserved for royals, lists and heralds, and occaisionally A&S but they have to fight for it. Baronies and royal peers don't get first dibs on eric frontage.
My tall sweetie uses urban planning terms to describe the difference in eric use between your kingdom and mine. Here, we camp around the lists. It is our town square. We live there. Up north, it is surrounded by office buildings and people commute to it from their remote campsites and abandon the eric in the evening leaving an empty shell of office buildings. Just one of those inter-kingdom anthropology things.
