Mostly Sewing
Nov. 6th, 2005 09:20 pmI stayed home today, so I had most of the day to work on the sleeves to my over-robe. I was able to play with it a bunch--thank the diety-of-your-choice for dress dummys--and I came up with a working pattern. I think the key is to not over-think these things, because if I do it won't get done.
I'm making straps and weaving them into small puffy over-sleeve (see Fig. 43 in the Moda a Firenze book for an example). I think one issue will be if there is space for the white organza to peek through. The way I did the mock-up there really wasn't any space between the straps, but that was what was looking best to me with regards to shape. Well, there are already things that are questionable about this robe, and it will look cool nonetheless. OK, at least it will be different.
I actually got to the point of making up the straps. Quit when my eyes started to glaze over at about 8:30.
In other happy news, they opened a Peet's Coffee about a mile from my house, and they had their grand opening this weekend. Got a pound of coffee for half price. Oh, and the place was packed. I found it *interesting* that the crowd all gave off the "we're really urban people trapped in Livermore" vibe. :-) I hope they do well; I'm a big Peet's fan. :-)
And, without going grocery shopping, I was able to put together a dinner of chicken Korma (a la Trader Joe's sauce) with rice and grilled aspergras with white truffle oil and parmesan.
Truely, today did not suck. :-)
