Yup, you read that right, 2008. I've never been to a convention of any sort before (other than for work, which is an entirely different thing ;-) ). I've been hearing about this for a while now, so to avoid working on my stupid report for a few minutes I checked it out and signed up.

Costume Con 2008 is going to be held April 25-28, 2008 in San Jose, at the Double Tree hotel (same site as 12th Night 2006, I think). I paid for the full weekend ticket, and I'm planning on getting a hotel room so I can retreat when I need to. My hope is to take classes and learn something new. I also have high hopes for vendors. :-) I hate competition of all sorts, so I'll stay away from all that.

Part of me is kinda intimidated -- I cringe at the idea of being judged (assuming I wear stuff I've made). But I would like to stretch myself and try to learn new things that I can apply.

So, anybody want to join me? :-)

The idea sounds intriguing.
I will need to do a little research on this.

Maybe it can be my Birthday gift that year.

I'm interested, but my calendar doesn't go out that far. Let me check into it and get back to you. :-)

I have to admit I wasn't terribly enthralled with the last Costume Con I went to, but I'd be willing to give it another go -- especially with company this time.

I plan on going. The last one in the Bay Area was lots of fun. Sometimes it is good to stretch -- some many centuries so few weekends...

It's going to be a big deal for a lot of my fellow GBACGers, so I was already planning on being there (one of the girls with me at 12th Night is on the board for this con). The historical masquerade is probably going to be pretty intense as every costumer in the guild is swearing to make something over-the-top amazing for the competition, and I'm thinking about staying out of it for that reason alone (I hate competition too).

It's going to be quite a show, from what I've heard... The Costume Con to end all Costume Cons. ;)

It certainly sounds like fun. I'll have to check the schedule a little closer to the date. Not that I don't usually plan this far out, but I've been getting a lot of curve balls over the past couple of years.

I'm interested, but 2008 is the year we're planning the London trip--with a stay at Hampton Court. So it's all in the dates.
