Holiday Meme (Baa)
Nov. 28th, 2006 08:58 pmOK, my holiday memories are all tied together with birthday memories (my B-day is Dec. 22), so some of my answers are kinda unique.
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot chocolate. I've never been an egg nog person.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Wrap. Do other people not wrap?
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Colored. White seems kinda sterile to me, but it could be pretty I suppose.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Never got into the habit, and there's no point these days.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
Hmm, I'm not big on decorating my place. The only thing I do is my tree.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
I never had a particular food associated with holiday dinner. My aunt often make lasangna for my birthday, however, and I *loved* her lasangna.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
I have a few:
I always enjoyed getting a Xmas tree with my mom. It was always at night and the lots smelled great. I think the Charlie Brown Special made Xmas trees very important to me.
Speaking of TV specials, I must have impressed on the Rudolf one as well, because I have very fond memories of playing with toy reindeer under the tree. I ignored the existance of Santa -- he was just a creepy old man, and I was born preferring animals to people. It was all about the reindeer for me
Third, all my relatives lived in Long Beach, so every holiday was spent in the LA area. So for my b-day every year we'd go to Disneyland. I have very fond memories of Disneyland, all decorated for the holidays. :-)
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
See above. I never got fixated on Santa. I can't remember not knowing that presents came from mom.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Sometimes. Depends on the situation.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
I have an eclectic mix of ornaments. Lots of little animals, along with pretty glass stuff. Small colored lights that don't blink.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I've spent Christmas in 80 degree LA. Snow is not part of my reality at any time. Actually, since I've spent every Christmas in non-snow environments I've always found the pop culture association of snow with Xmas kinda irritating. I've often thought that I have more in common with the Aussies in this respect.
12. Can you ice skate?
I took lessons as a kid, but haven't been on skates as an adult. What, I don't have enough time consuming hobbies?
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
I've had so many great gifts over the years I can't identify one favorite.
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Remembering who my family really is (all chosen by me :-) ).
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Birthday cake!
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Probably decorating my tree. That's about the only time I get into the spirit of the time, really.
17. What tops your tree?
The Death of Rats (continuing thanks to maestrateresa for the Best Tree Topper Ever!)
18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving?
I won't lie; I love getting presents. But I love finding the perfect gift for people, too.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
I'm pretty burnt on all Christmas music these days. It is fun to do sing-alongs, though -- Does the Halalluah chorus count?
20. Candy canes?
Inedible but decorative.
