T minus 24 and counting...
Oct. 6th, 2006 12:02 amIn about 24 hours I'll be in a plane heading for England. Now I'm excited! The trip has been very unreal for me until now. I think what helped kick the reality in was -- on top of the immanence of departure -- the discovery that the Museum of Costume in Bath has a whole separate gift shop for fashion books (Woo Hoo!) and that we will be going to the Hastings reenactment on Oct. 14th!
Per the latter, I know, I should have known that, but I've left all of the planning to Johanna. I've had this conversation with many of you, but for those of you that don't know: I have not travelled very much, ever. Certainly not out of the country. So I've had a serious mental block with this travel-thing. If Johanna didn't plan this trip it would not be happening, because my brain was just not capable with dealing with it. Once I've done it I'm sure I'll be be able to do it myself, but just not this first time.
Anyway Johanna and Martin and I leave tomorrow, and will come back on Oct. 16. We will go to Bath for 2 nights, then York for three, and spend the remaining time in London. On the 14th (we'll be in London at that point) we'll be day-tripping to Hastings and will see the re-enactment -- very exciting!
I never did get drugs for the flight (I have flight fear issues), so I've informed Johanna that I intend to take advantage of in-flight alcohol. And I understand that you can bring books on board now, so I can escape to my happy place reading Naomi Novik's further adventures of Temeraire the dragon (see previous post). :-)
I'm mostly packed (Johanna helped me with that too), but I still have some last minute additions to finish tonight. JIMR got me some British cash, so I've got that covered. Maestrateresa has kindly offered me a ride to the airport -- Many Thanks!
I'm sure I'll be burbling about all this when I get back, so be prepared ;-) .

Date: 2006-10-06 01:08 am (UTC)There is a beautiful garden park. Nearby is Wookey Caverns and the Cotton Paper Mill/Teddy Bear exhibit. They sell paper guaranteed to last 500 years. No I am not kidding. Also is Cheddar Gorge. Oh and the honey is England is amazing. Their cheapo chocolate is better that some of our expensive stuff.
Have an amazing trip, I look forward to your stories and books and all the nifty things you will find.
