Have a great event!
Sep. 29th, 2006 10:40 pmTo all you folks that are headed off to October Crown: Have fun! As most of you know already, I'll be working this weekend to make up for my lack of sufficient vacations days for my trip to England. Sorry I'll miss stella_nordica and jimbear's stepping up as B & B of Vinhold, but it can't be helped. I'll miss seeing all you cool kids, but oh well...
On a totally different subject, I'm enjoying the heck out of the book His Majesty's Dragon, by Naomi Novik (spelling?). Napoleanic war plus dragons, written in the style of Patrick O'Brian. I'll be taking the next two books in the series on my trip. God, I love this stuff! I'm such a geek, I have to keep from gushing with glee over these books. Of course, I am who I am and my likes are what they are, so I can't guarentee that any of you will like these books. Heck, I'm pretty sure madbaker and mastersantiago would *not* like them, given the degree to which one has to suspend one's disbelief concerning the physics of dragons and flight. Peter Jackson reportedly optioned the series from the author -- OMG I'd be at *that* movie opening night, I assure you. :-)
Reading this book has help cheer me up; I've been rather down this week. Nothing new, just the same ol' same ol'. Kinda like I (and probably everybody else) have these little pools of unhappiness and every once and a while the tide comes in and they overflow. Blah.
I leave for England a week from today -- Ack! This trip is becoming much more real to me now...

Date: 2006-09-30 01:26 am (UTC)I was at Disneyland with Naomi, and I'll see her again in February if you're into the autograph thang. :-> Word of warning - if you don't like cliffhangers, do NOT read the little snippet at the end of book 3.
