By Friday I wasn't well, but I was better, and feeling stir crazy because of having to stay in the house all week. Misagillian had the day off, so we decided to meet up at the barn. Misagillan got to practice dealing with Brandee, I got to ride (pathetic!) and spend time with The Best Little Painy Mare In The Whole Wide World. :-)

Misagillian then drove us both to Fabrics R Us. We found some red/burgandy veleteen at a good price so she was finally able to buy her 12th Night fabric. I drove home and crashed.

Saturday Misagillain drove all the way out to Livermore to drive me to Mists Bardic. Thanks to her I was able to go -- I wasn't up to driving that much that late. As others have written, it was a very good competition. Kudos to falzalot and learnteach, who put in great performances. I thought falzalot had a very good chance of winning, but the next Bard will be klwilliams, who was really good with incorporating people into stories. :-) Much smoozing as well, including seeing may people from The WayBack Machine. And I got to wear my pink venetian all day, so my vanity was gratified. Lost my voice bey the end of the day, though.

There was a rumor that there was talk of doing away with Mist Bardic. I do not believe the rumor to be true, but I do believe another rumor that there was talk of re-schedualling this event so as to free up another weekend for camping (as if we didn't have enough of those...). I think Mists Bardic is an event worth fighting for, so I hope the stellar performaces and good attendence proves to The Powers That Be that this event should be fostered and not ignored.

Sunday a bunch of people came over to my place for a day of sewing: Misagillian, g0atface, the LBK, nightbocci, Johanna, and Marguerite. Much food was bought and consumed. Much patterning and sewing was accomplished. In general, a good time was had by all. :-) I got nightbocci to fit my bodice pattern for me, so now I can cut my 12th Night bodice, as well as bodices for several other outfits in the queue. (Hmm, Johanna suggested that I sew up the new pink fabric for Crosston Ball. Don't know if that is possible, though.) I draped nightbocci for a 16th C bodice, so my evil plot is taking hold. :-) Johanna cut out the fabric she just bought for a new Italian houpalond, and it is *perfect* :-) . Misagillan almost got her smock done; hopefully it makes better sense to her now and the next one will be easy for her. And Marguerite's ropa is coming right along, so maybe she will be able to do a Burgundian for 12th Night along with Misagillian.

It appears, however, that our "theme" (unplanned, I assure you) for this 12th Night is Red. I'll be in a red dress, as will g0atface, misagillian, nightbocci, and I think the LBK. Maestrateresa's fabric is red as well. Johanna wants to do the Anne of Cleves dress, and I don't know what color that is/will be.

It was a long day and I was pretty worn out by the end of it, but I confess that I felt sad when everybody left. I was so nice to be around fun and nice people again, as opposed to my sickness-induced isolation. :-(

On the travel front, our plane and train tickets are bought and paid for. Looks like I really-o truely-o will be in England Oct. 6-16th. I'll be working through October Crown, though, to make up for some of the time away from work. I'll be sorry to miss seeing everybody at Crown, but Oh Well. I do plan to attend Mists Coronet, though, so I'll get to see some of you there.
:-)

One the 12th Night Party front, progress has been made. I have a room for both Friday and Saturday nights, and I talked to Maria about reserving a pony keg of peach ciser. I've never bought or dealt with a keg, though, so I'll be asking for assistance -- be warned! So come on by the Sat. Evening of 12th Night and help celebrate the 20th anniversary of me getting my Laurel. Hey, it's as good an excuse for a party as any! Nightbocci got her Laurel at a 12th Night, too, so we can also celebrate her 20 + (23?) year anniversary. :-)

Work now.

Johanna said she needed to buy fabric just like mine for her twelfth night dress (she asked how much was left), so I think she's red too. :)

The rumors of doing away with Mists Bardic is Patently UN-True.

Ideas are being kicked around to make some adjustments to the event and when in the season it will be held, but that it the extent of it. Please feel free to speak with DV~ about this. Input is good and he can give you the truth of the matter. I know he has no desire for mis quotes to occur and possible lies to establish themselves where this event is concerned. **grin**

He encourages people to speak to him and better yet write to him to find out what is really happening. **grin**

[livejournal.com profile] mastersantiago said that, after actually attending Mists Bardic, his highness, er, realized the importance of the event and the position. He still thinks (if I'm remembering correctly) that it should be moved to a late fall/winter date, which could be a good idea depending on what else is on the calendar. One of the arguments I heard against a move was that it would leave too large a window on the calendar with no A&S focussed events at all -- I haven't checked to see if that's true or not.

I know that DV~ has researched the calendar for a historical viewpoint on this event as well as other events and where they sit historically. I know he has come up with some interesting Data. :-)

Just to set the record straight, there is no move to do away with Mists Bardic. There is a proposal to move the event to a time of year more suited to indoor events. The reason for moving the Mists Bardic event is to free up a good weather weekend for outdoor events. It is far less expensive for a group to throw a one-day event at a park, then it is for a group to rent a hall and run an indoor event. This is not an attack on the Bards of the Mists or their event it is simply a proposed calendar change.

Have there been any specific requests from local groups for additional camping dates?

There is always a shortage of good weather dates on the calendar, not just for camping, but also for other outdoor events in general. Most people who are not active in their local groups do not preserve this to be a problem, since they are not involved in the process of trying to find a good date on the calendar to hold a local event. :-)

I mean not slight to you madbaker, not everyone can be active at a local level. :-)

No slight taken. I'm not combatting with the question either (no intonation cues in print)

That rumor was the reason why I switched from auditing to competing, so if it ~was~ true, lack of interest by competitors couldn't be used as an excuse. If I had actually won, I would've absolutely and totally freaked out, because there's no way I am ready for the job.

But thank you for the kind words!!

Your Laurel is 20???? Mine's 17. That means you were a senior when I was a freshman -- and STILL too cool for school, what with having a kegger in your hotel room and you're not even 21 yet....

I suppose I should have waited until year 25, or even 21 (so it's old enough to drink). But 20 is a nice round number. And besides, having a party is part of my giving the Big Finger to Fate in response to last 12th Night's unfortunate events. :-/
