Why work when you can update?
Aug. 17th, 2006 04:48 pmWell, it's been a week and I'm still dizzy. :-P Clearly related to how tired I am and how much I've been moving around. Monday was bad because I couldn't go to sleep Sunday night. I had a lot of sleep Monday night and woke up feeling great Tuesday. Overdid it, apparently on Tuesday, because by Tuesday night I was pretty darn dizzy and unfortunately had a less than optimal drive home that night from Marguerite's. (I took two right turns wider than I would have liked -- scared me.) Wednesday I decided driving was a bad idea and so worked at home. Brandee did not clear her stall (guilt, the gift that keeps on giving...)
Today I woke up feeling a bit better. I went off to the barn for Brandee's training ride.
Think I overdid it trying to chase Brandee around the outdoor arena before Erica arrived. Had to do this because I didn't want Brandee to be all I-didn't-get-out-yesterday hot for Erica. Brandee must have run around when I went off to open the tack box, because when I got in there she really had to be chased to do anything more than stand there. Figured out this was not good, and rested against one of the jump uprights until I felt better. Sat and watched Brandee get trained, so I was pretty OK rinsing her off and putting her away. I've been useless here at work today, though. :-P The doctor did say I'd be off for "a couple of weeks", but jeeze, I am *so* done with this now. :-/
Haven't been sewing much lately. I did agree to do some last minute hand work for Marguerite (well, ultimately it's for her husband). This was fine because it's work I don't have to think about. And, to make handwork even easier, I got my copy of Rome from Amazon yesterday! Huzzah! Worked on Brian's thing and watched the first three episodes, the first two with the commentary.
Sunday I made one of my very occasional forays into cooking. I felt like a vegatable fix, so I shopped and made the roasted ratatouille recipe from the current Fine Cooking. I thought I put in too much salt, but it was OK.
Since I can't ride right now I'm using my stationary recumbant bike and watching CSI episodes (courtesy of Owen and Maria's NetFlix choices). Wow, CSI is cool! I've jumped in at season 3, so I did have to have a few things explained to me. "Riding" for at least 30 min., trying to isolate my quads. I should break out my pilates DVD too, but *when* is the question. God, I want to get back on my horse!
Brandee (truely only of interest to me, but it's my journal): OMG that little pony needs a bath! I've got to make some time next Thursday or I'll be really embarrased at Purg. I should pull her mane, too, but I really don't know if I'll get to it. Luckily Marguerite trimmed her wiskers on Saturday. Looking like I may have to take all of Thurday off as well as Friday if I go to the barn and have my usual lesson/training ride.
Did I mention that Brandee finally saw the dentist? Marguerite took care of it Saturday while I was at the rapier event. He did have to trim some of her molars and put in a bit seat. He also suggested that we make sure the bit isn't too low, so I punched new holes in Brandee's bridle to bring it up a little bit.
Speaking of Brandee care, it looks like I'll be late to Mists Fall Coronet. Luckily Coronet and my barn are pretty much at the same place -- Ed Levine Park. There is a vaccination clinic and I need to update Brandee's shots this fall. Much cheaper to do this as part of a clinic. They start giving shots at 9 AM, so if I get there early I could possibly be at Coronet at about the same time I would arrive normally.
And I must not completely suck at dressage. Erica noted that since I haven't been riding Brandee had regressed a bit and gotten stiff. Miss B was setting her neck and head against the bit again, and Eric started off having real steering issues with her.
Brandee, as it turns out, would be an easy horse to ruin. She is inclined to set against the bit, and with bad/uneducated riding this pattern could be set for life. The biggest compliment I've gotten is that I'm not ruining her. :-) When you ride correctly Brandee reaches for the bit all by herself. But this is work for her, so she tries to go back to setting her neck and pulling herself forward instead of using her hindquarters. Today Erica worked with Brandee for a long time to correct her; it was as though Brandee 'forgot' what it was that she was supposed to do.
Part of it too is that when Brandee doesn't work (running around the outdoor arena is not work) she gets stiff. Took Erica a good 30 min to get Brandee to loosen up. Once she did she went very nicely. :-) Even her canters are looking better, althought they are not nearly as good at her trot. Once I stop being dizzy I have *got* to suck it up and lunge her with the side reins. (Have I mentioned that I don't like to lunge?)
One last musing: I'm toying with the idea of dressing in my pink venetian Friday night at Purg to attend the vigils in. It has been cool at night, so it may be cool enough for me to wear that outfit. Otherwise I'll be Bubba-Genevieve all weekend that that disturbs my 16th C sensiblities. ;-) And, of course, it is a new outfit and I am vain, therefore I want to wear it.

Pink venetians
Date: 2006-08-30 05:30 am (UTC)I am taking off for San Antonio on Saturday, but am bringing some linen along to make a camica; now I only want to wear Venetians.
Thanks for being my inspiration.
