Tonight I went to the south bay scribe get-together with maestrateresa and tried my hand at calligraphy. I, of course, wanted to do something as appropriate to 16th C as possible, so MT got me started on Italic. She lent me a pen and some ink, and Maria sent me home with print out of stuff to practice.

I think I did pretty good for a first time. Definately more adept at this than I am at dressage. ;-) OK, so I only made i's, l's, b's, a's and c's, but that's a start. I'll try to practice 10 min a day, otherwise it will never happen.

With luck someday I'll be able to pass snotty notes to my friends at court. Hey, it's good to have goals.

**As to why I'm doing this, the answer is twofold. First, I'm taking up Siobahn M.'s challenge to try something completely new. (Hmm, I'd better find her website...). Second, I've sorta-kinda been shamed into it. Last Oct. collegium Aza pointed out to me that *Leon* came to one of the scribal workshops that Elizka held, and if Leon could do it I had no excuse. Being the obsessive detail-oriented girl that I am, I feel more comfortable trying calligraphy than illumination (graphic art being *way* out of my comfort zone).
