...and Brandee continues to be a Good Girl. That about sums it all up.
TMI: On Friday, as many of you already know, maestrateresa had The Unfortunate Incident With The Car. I'd ridden in the morning, and sometime after noon I got the call to come get Bubbles. So Friday got to be an Auntie Toni & Bubbles day (and night). Unfortunately, this meant that a few tasks had to be postponed until Saturday.
Saturday I got up late, and by the time I got to the barn it was a madhouse. Everybody was there with their out-of-town-guest families. Rode Brandee, but had to deal with arena traffic, so I couldn't do too much. Then it was off to pick up maestrateresa for turtle-duty (she had no car--obviously--but needed to look in on Branwen's turtles. Had to go back to the barn to throw Brandee's blanket on, then haased for home. Made my gift to Tom and Collett (the redpepper sauce out of a cookbook from the founder of Greens) and then decided that I really needed some down time. Watched Serenity. Watched all the extras. Watched the movie again with the commentary. (Yes, I know I'm obsessive. That's why I'm a Laurel ;-) ). By then--surprise surprise--it was after 1:00 AM.
No surprise, I slept until 9:30 on Christmas. Decided that it was Xmas, and I was going to not stress. So I took my time and made a decent breakfast, opened a few presies (with Owen, who happened to be here), then headed off to the barn. (One presie was from Brandee--with a little help from Auntie Marguerite: a framed photo of Brandee wearing a Santa hat and jingle bells around her neck :-) )
Anyway, this was the first time I'd been to the barn, and the first time I'd ridden a horse, on Christmas. Given this and all the driving I did, this must have been my Christmas of Transportation ;-) .Contrary to the 24th, there were very few folks out. Luckily those that were there were pleasant, and I had a decent ride on Brandee. Then I let Brandee graze for a while, since the grass has started to come up. (New grass is like Sees Candies for horses.) Oh, and this was really cute and nice: these two teenyboppers at the barn left some of the horses--including Brandee--little packages of horse treats, signed from their horses Cash and Shasta. :-)
Next it was off to maestrateresa's for a shower and dinner. Her mom, bless her, made dinner and the kids cleaned up, leaving maestrateresa to supervise and do a bit of handsewing with me. :-) . Very nice dinner, and I got another Death of Rats (a figurine--must be a theme now... ;-) ). At about 6:30 MT and I headed off to Tom and Collett's, where much fun smoozing occured. Got a call from Donna and Andrew (who are up north visiting his family this year); it was nice to talk to them on Xmas--thanks guys! Time flew by at T&C's, and it got late too early, if you know what I mean.
So much driving in the rain, but much good company, and Brandee-time to boot. Not too shabby for a Xmas.
Today was the first time I got to sew. Of course, I got a late start, and so I didn't get home from the barn until 2:00 PM. For all that I then spent about 7 hours sewing, it doesn't seem like I got much done. Part of me is panicing, and part of me is saying, "Breath, remember it's just Monday". We will have to see how the next few days go. I do love spending time with horses, but it does take a big chunk out of the day, especially since it is a 35-40 min. drive each way. *Maybe* Wednesday I can stay home all day, since Marguerite gets home Tuesday night.
And on a completely different note, I've started reading Karen Armstrong's A History of God. I also have a copy of her The Battle for God, A History of Fundamentalism, and plan to read that next. (Aastg: the latter book is the one I spoke to you about at stela_nordica's party). I've heard Ms. Armstrong on NPR a number of times, and I've meant to read her stuff for some time now. A review will probably happen once I finish.
Finally, it occured to me that my greatest wish for 2006 is that no one, including me, has to make a trip to the Emergency Room. Hear that, everybody?
Bed now.
