Today's Mission

Today's the day I get a Xmas tree! It has to happen today, because this is pretty much the only time I have to do this. This year it is even more important to get a tree because this year I get to put up the Best Ornament Ever, the Death of Rats Tree-topper! (From Terry Pratchett's Hogfather, if you're not a Diskworld fan :-) ). Maestrateresa made it for me for my B-day/Xmas last year. I haven't been this excited about getting an Xmas tree for a long time. :-)
Hopefully, I'll get to see Narnia again with Charles and Petra tonight, and tomorrow the Thursday Night Sewing Crowd are going to Dicken's Faire, so it should be a good weekend.
Cute Brandee Story: OK, so a couple of stories, showing Once Again that Brandee is the Prosac Pony. Thursday there was a dentist working with a horse in a stall in the indoor arena. The sound of the power tools was pretty loud in the building, with the tin roof and all. So when I brought Brandee in I asked the dentist to make some noise while Brandee watched. Predictably, Brandee only cocked her ears for a moment, and then determining that it didn't mean food she ignored it.
Friday I had to take most of the day off from work (had to sign re-financing papers--got a *good* fixed rate!) so I was at the barn in the middle of the day. Brandee had worked a lot Thursday, and the sun was out and no one was in the outdoor arena *and* that arena was dry. So I decided to give Brandee a fun run-around-in-the-big-arena turnout. Brandee gets out there and just starts to mosy. I raise my hands to play the predator/prey game. No reaction. I find a rattle-bottle (a water bottle with rocks) and shake that. Brandee just looks at me. The I found the always-present beat-up lunge whip one finds in turn-out areas. Finally, by raising my hands, shaking the bottle *and* waving the whip Brandee starts to run around and buck and act like a 4-yo should. Can you de-spook a horse too much? Later I find out that Marguerite has been shaking the plastic jar of cookies to get Brandee to come to her, so *of course* Brandee doesn't run at the rattle-bottles anymore. She's such a good girl. :-)
