Yesterday was our Fall Kingdom Equestrian Event. Yup, it conflicted with GWW--I hope this doesn't happen again. But we had a good turn out, as these things go, and it seemed a lot more active than last year (if that makes sense...)
Once again, I was able to rent the Robertson Park arenas, which are about a mile from my house. The site has two good-sized arenas but nothing else, so the event was arena-based: games and jousting and mounted crest combat, with a little bit of drill team. We had 13 horses, which is about what we had last year. The difference was that whereas last year we had a big RMS contingint, this year everybody was in or interested in the SCA. The of the horses were with people that were horse-people that heard about us and wanted to come play. Good news, they all went away happy. :-) . The had a bunch of horse people come check us out, but who didn't bring horses. They were pretty happy too, but unfortunately they had to wait to see anything interesting because it takes up so long to set everything up. Next time we do this, Marguerite and I decided, the better thing would be to do the jousting *first*, because that is what spectators want to see.
And Thank The Divinity Of Your Choice for the Cynaguan EQ marshals. They came down from Redding and the Gold Country without horses just to marshal, which turned out to be Very Necessary because the Mists marshals had horses. And Bethia came through for us, driving from Stockton to be on site at 8:00 AM to handle Gate. And Marguerite, of course, worked her tuckus off, hosting two people down from Oertha, handling the day's schedual, printing the site handouts, putting up the SCA signs, *and* getting uber-spiffy site tokens from her tour of Eastern Europe (little swords--can double as a hair stick :-) ).
Gotta go now, will write more later.
