Giant hugs to both of you. When you're not ready to downsize, losing your things feels a lot like theft. You have to work through the emotions, etc. I'm downsizing, but I expect the process will take at least a few years. Giving up my Rollerblades was painful, despite knowing there's no way I can skate again, and not skating for years. I'm glad you were able to be empathetic and help him through this.
