The Move: I have awesome friends -- thank you all! A week ago today was the Big Furniture Move of 2010, where we had to move a bunch of stuff from the garage to Owen's mom's garage. Morgan, Rat, and Jen all brought trucks, so along with Owen's van we were able to move it all in one trip. Then this Saturday the pod arrived, and nightbocce, her husband John, Jen, Pete, Sue, Donna, and Andrew all showed up and unloaded the pod in one day -- huzzah! Sunday and Monday it J/S and I worked on unpacking and made a big dent. Yes, there is a lot of stuff, but I'm hopeful. Life together so far has been wonderful. :-)
Barn Tales: Didn't see much of Brandee last week because of all the moving-fu. She got out everyday and got 2 training rides, so it was all good for her. By Saturday it was Brandee time, so I got out there and back just as the pod arrived. Sunday I just lunged her to give her the day off, and Monday I rode and had a Learning/Confidence Building Experiance (TM).
Brandee's been a bit high recently. Not suprizing. Last week a Llama moved in within smelling distance of Brandee, and she's has shown concern over the llama, which has made her a bit more reactive as well.
Since I'd lunged her Sunday I thought it would be OK to just hop on her yesterday. Clearly she was feeling fresh and wanted to go, but we had a discussion and she had settled in to listening to me, although she was still trying to barge through occassionally. Then a nice regular at the barn, Linda, asked if she could lunge her TB, Seven. I said fine, Brandee's always OK with that.
Well, a perfect-storm-situation happened. Brandee and I were circling right and came face on with Seven (about 10-15 feet away), who just at that moment decided to blow up on the lungeline. Brandee decided she wanted to have a Woo Hoo moment and tried to buck and run. J/S was there watching, and he said she jumped up twice and looked like she was getting ready to buck, and then she tried to take off with there big QH butt engaged. I was, of course, scared, and had one fraction of a second where I thought I was going to come off, but I just thought CORE CORE CORE and rode her through it and brought her back. I must have looked good because Linda, who didn't see the jumps but did see us right after, thought we were just cantering. Go me!
Overall, life right now is super busy, so you won't be seeing much of me online for a while. And I need to get back to organizing the Ball for March Crown and our 16th C Day at W/AT War. but, yeah, focus is on Life (TM) right now. And Life is very good. :-)
P.S. J/S, at the encouragement of his friends, may start his own blog. Probably on FB. I'll let him speak for himself about his CA adventures, but I will say that he seems to be settling in. :-)
