Hey there all my fellow 16th C enthusiasts! You may know this already from reading the February issue of The Page, but in case you don't, I'm happy to report that there will be a late-period Masked Ball on the Saturday night of March Crown. The Ball will be held indoors in (as I understand it) the same building that we've had arts displays in for the last 2 years.

In the past, those of us who like indoor events for the opportunity they give us to play at Courtly pursuits that are more suited for indoor play* than outdoor camping events have lamented the lack of such events. Well, here we have an opportunity to dress up and dance at a Kingdom event that isn't 12th Night! Woo Hoo!

The key to this Ball's success is, of course, the support is gets. I've offered to help coordinate this Ball on behalf of Their Majesties, and so now I'm asking you, by fellow Courtiers for any help you can give. I've spoken with Crystal and I hear Vyncent is willing to help with dance and music. Refreshments are always welcome and much appreciated, and this would be another opportunity to showcase the delicious tastes the 16th C has to offer. This being a Ball the emphasis will be on dance, of course, but it would be lovely to have some other performance pieces during the set breaks. Perhaps we could have another performance of the Impromptu Players, such as we had at last years' Esfenn Feast of Fine Arts.

As you no doubt remember, the hall is pretty bare, so any offers to help decorate would be welcome. Their Majesties are thinking of this Ball as having a Venetian flavor, and I was thinking of breaking out the faux flowers I collected for the Gods and Goddesses Party held at the June Crown On The Surface Of The Sun, but other ideas are welcome at this point.

I have also been told that there is the possibility of a (simple) mask-making workshop during the day on Saturday in case folks want to get into the Mask-spirit and don't have their own to bring. :-)

So if you'd like to help, please let me know. I can be reached via message here on LJ, or you can email me at tlwhyte@comcast.net.

2010 is shaping up to be a great year for the 16th C! :-)

*Hm, "indoor play" probably evokes more than I mean in this instance... ;-)

I am waaaaaaaaaaaaay excited now! I am going to try to finish my new Dutch ensemble for it. :)
I will also try to find some munchies that will transport well. I'll let you know when I do :)

I could donate 5-6 not-exactly-period-but-very-decorative masks (since this is after the Venetian Carnevale DVD release party!). Perhaps these could be used in decorations? From the front, they all look like papier-mache or velvet-covered, beaded, feathered, etc., & tasteful, not gaudy.

Not yet sure if I can *come* to March Crown, bec. it's a few days before I leave for Jamaica. Hoping to day-trip. But I can always arrange for the items to be sent along.

Ordinarily I'd be delighted to contribute something, but since March Crown comes at the tail end of finals and grading period, I will be really short on prep time leading up to the event; I can't promise that I'll be able to cook or help with any sort of organizing. But there are plenty of performance pieces I can do on short or no notice, so if you find yourself in need of more entertainers, feel free to drop me a line. :-)

Unfortunately I have zero skills in this area to contribute, but have you considered have mask making workshops at a couple of the earlier in the year events that draw fighters and consorts, but have more time than Saturday at Crown? For example, Golden Rivers Championship (Feb 27 in Sac) and White Shield (March 3 at Tres Pinos).

Thank you for posting (and organizing!!!) We are really looking forward to this!

And yes, Her Grace Eilis has offered to host a mask making workshop in the BC Saturday afternoon before the ball. We just ask that people bring supply donations (glitter, feathers, etc)... We're assuming that crafty people have random stuff like that lying around their craft room that they just cant use for anything else and thought this would be a good use for it (I sure do...)

I also like Else's idea of having workshops at earlier events...

I second this. I know -zero- about period masks. Well, except for the woodcuts of men with pantihose on their heads.

Hee hee. Indoor play. Must. Resist. Jokes.
