I knew it was a good weekend when mid-way though Sunday I couldn't wipe the goofy smile off my face. The only thing lacking was my sweetie being with me, but he had a good weekend making stuff so it was all good. :-)

I had thought I'd work this weekend, but that did not happen. The way our time cards work it didn't profit me anything to work Saturday, so I blew that idea off. Instead, I spent the morning working on buttonholes for J/S's second linen Norlund No.63 tunic-thingie, then went the barn for some Brandee time. Had a pretty good ride -- the pattern I chose for my WK Champion competiion audit is getting better, which is something.

Then [livejournal.com profile] nightbocce met up with me at the barn and we headed back to my place to spend the rest of Saturday sewing. Many more buttonholes were accomplished and much enjoyable smoozing. She introduced me to a book that I'm sure many of you already know about but I didn't: Margareta Nocket's work on the Hogom textile finds of migration era Scandinavia (5th and 6th C, mostly). Very cool -- I want a copy of that now. :-)

Sunday was Horse and Baby Mania! Woke up to [livejournal.com profile] helblonde's post about how she and Pete and Snoopy had headed off to the hospital because it was That Time, so all day we were on the look-out for updates. Brandee and I had a lesson from 10-11 AM, and then at about 11:30 AM Laura and Pauly and Margureite and [livejournal.com profile] nightbocce arrived at the barn so we could practice/play around in preparation for the Championship competion. Unfortunately, Laura had forgotten her saddle (it happens -- she was so worried that she'd forget to bring both her double and snaffle bridles that she forgot the saddle :-/ ), so I let her use mine (Brandee's really wide, so it worked on Pauly). No practice for me and Brandee, therefore, but Laura and Pauly got to get a sense of what 90 secs feels like for the demo portion, and she worked on rings. Also, we measured our arena, which turns out to be about 75 ft wide and 200 ft long. The arena for the competiton is 100 x 280 ft -- OMG that's big! I don't think Brandee and I can cover that space in 90 sec, let alone hear our music farther away than our 200 ft (and I've got hearing problems, to boot.) But, OMG, Laura and Pauly are a Thing To Behold! They compete in dressage, and it shows (no pun intended...) Super fun to see what dressage is supposed to look like in person. :-) No, indeed, Brandee and I are never going to look like that, but OMG I love to watch dressage when it's done well. :-)

Another cool thing for me was getting to ride Pauly for a little bit. This was good for my brain. We walked, and I tried the teensy-est bit of trot, which was every bit as "throw-you-into-the-stratusphere" big as I had been warned. Core strength is my friend. Yes, indeed, I have confidence and fear issues, but I did it, and Laura said I could ride her again (which would be a continuing good thing for my brain).

Then it was off to Michaels to acquire stuff for my cornocopia arrangement for my Concordia schtick, and by then we'd heard that Conrad Augustus had made his big entrance. ;-) [livejournal.com profile] nightbocce, Marguerite, Laura and I all went for a long lunch and margueritas to celebrate. Then [livejournal.com profile] nightbocce and I drove down to Gillian and Leotulf's to meet up with her husband and everybody else at the tail end of fight practice. More smoozing, followed by the eventual group trip to meet Conrad and to check in on how mom and dad were doing. Happy to report that [livejournal.com profile] helblonde looked great, [livejournal.com profile] moriven looked every bit the happy daddy, and Conrad looked perfect. :-) IMHO Conrad's most striking feature at this point is that he has Jen's nose exactly. ;-)

Then it was a late night trip to Starbucks with Marguerite and Gillian before my drive home, which was good because by that point I was really beat. Working at home today as a result.

And Woo Hoo! Wednesday I leave for An Tir to see my sweetie! Yay! Going to Sport of Kings, should be interesting -- a Personal Growth Opportunity, I'm sure. ;-)

And to all of you that are home now from Purgatorio Coronation in Oertha, I hope you had a super good time! Someday I'll get up there -- your stories and pictures so far have all been great. :-)
