Health, Work, Horseshoes, and Dithering
May. 14th, 2009 09:03 amHealth: Dizzyness-thing is a lot better. Still need to hold onto something when washing my hair. Got my MRI results and my brain looked OK (no comment...)
Work: I've been in crunch mode getting a report finished. Still not done, but mostly. I got the draft reviewed yesterday and PM was happy. Must finish today! Overlord meeting next week -- still trying to get more contracts. Looks like the Overlords are doing a final push to get us work.
Horseshoes: Brandee threw a shoe. :-( I was gone this weekend (M/C War/Salon, then Sunday was with Etaine for cotehardie patterning), so I'd had her turned out by a lady that does that for a small fee. But she doesn't chase Brandee, and The Rule with Brandee is that she'll only run around if a little monkey is in the arena with her. My report swallowed me Monday, so I called Marguerite to turn Brandee out. She went into the arena, of course, and Brandee ran and kicked like a maniac. I strongly suspect this is when Brandee threw the shoe. But M can't pick hoofs anymore because being pregnant gets in the way, so she didn't see it. I didn't get out to the barn until Tuesday night, and by then I'd missed my farrier's weekly visit (only on Tuesday mornings.). So the farrier isn't coming to fix it until Tuesday, and I've got to acquire an EZ boot -- on today's To-Do list, along with finishing the report. :-0
Dithering about SCA event attendence: I'm not going to Investiture Saturday -- too many weekends in a row where I haven't been to the barn, and I've got to get some sewing and cleaning done. Sunday I'm heading up to see Aldith to talk about what it's like to be a Business Analyst, which seems like a good career to transition to (see previous posts).
Next weekend I'm heading north for Sweetie Time -- Yay! We're going to Grand Thing, which is not far from Portland. Viking-themed event, but I don't think they'll throw me out. ;-) Besides, I'm looking forward to hanging out and making buttonholes on J/S' Norlund No. 63-thingie. Buttonholes and sewing on the little ball buttons I made are all that's left to do. :-)
Weekend after that is a long-overdue weekend with Juana and Ivar. June gets busy with A&S, June Crown, and then I'm off north for 11 days, including An Tir West War.
Which brings me to the dithering: I'm seriously considering not going to June Crown. Arguements for not going:
-- Work is making me take vacation days to make up for the lack of contract work, so I don't have many, so...
-- Working the weekend of June Crown is probably the adult thing to do, since I'll be gone for over a week at the end of June/early July.
-- Having a weekend between A&S and going north would help with cleaning and packing.
-- I'm not the kind of person who can handle that many big SCA events in a row, usually.
Arguements for going to June Crown:
-- The 14th C feast that Klaus is organizing and Gianetta is cooking. I'm honored to be invited -- should be a great amd memorable event. This is tied to:
----I don't like to feel like I don't go to cool period things that other people do but that I want them to come to Salons. I want to support all the cool period play zones! And, bad me, I have yet to make a Tavern that Vittoria and Vyncent have put on. Hopefully I can make up for that this A&S, although it would mean leaving the site late at night to go home.
--I can day trip A&S, so it's not like I'm camping two weekends in a row.
-- It's another Laurel meeting I'd miss. I hear there's going to be one at A&S, so that might make up for it.
-- It would be yet another WK event I don't make it to this year.
Hmm, let's look at this year's WK and AT attendence:
West:
-12th Night
-Estrella (well, camped with the West, anyway)
-Collegium
-Mists-Cyangua War/Salon
-A&S
(An Tir/West counts for both Kingdoms, so it cancels itself out)
-October Cown (probably)
After Oct schedual undetermined.
An Tir:
-12th Night
-Grand Thing
(An Tir/West, see above)
-Sport of Kings
-September Crown
-Emprise of the Black Lion
So, yeah, by the end of the year it will probably work out to be half and half. So it's not like my usual event numbers are dropping off, it's just that they are getting divided between 2 kingdoms this year.
So there you have it. Still dithering. I need to make up my mind soon, though, so I could tell Gianetta and Klaus. :-/
OK, got to get to work again!

Date: 2009-05-14 05:13 pm (UTC)I'm going to May Crown this weekend and my horse crazy inner 10 year old is cranky that I'm taking two vacation days and a whole weekend of not riding to do it.... I am even taking my boots and helmet out of the car! I havent done that in MONTHS!
on pony notes.... let me know how the easy boot thing goes, what brand you end up with, etc... Raj is the first horse I've had who is shod and I'm toying with the idea of getting one (a set?) in case he tosses a shoe on the trail... (hmm. maybe I should talk to Ron the Godlike Farrier and see what he thinks...)
oh yes, and i've been asked to help judge the equitation portion of the challenge course at AnTir/West. wanna help me? :) they've asked for a "ladies gallery" type thing... (I figure if I cant ride I can at least get in some scritches and such :))

Still in boot-acquisition mode. Boots are not cheap; the price range seems to be $40-150. Ack! I'll keep you posted. :-)
