The 5 word meme, right after...
Mar. 5th, 2009 09:44 pm... I brag about Brandee! :-) She was so good tonight. All the horses were hot and high. It's been raining so the only place to work was the indoor arena. The two horses that lunged before me blew off a lot of steam (although, really, not too bad). I knew I had to lunge the Paint Princess before getting on her, but, ya know, even though she was full of energy she was *so polite* on the lunge line. She didn't buck, and she kept at a fast canter and didn't break into a run. I just let her go until she tired herself out a bit.
And riding these days? Good thing Erica has beaten a good frame into me because -- don't laugh! -- Brandee is all muscle and feels like a powerful horse now. Very very happy with her progress. Erica is a great trainer and I *really hope* I can continue to afford her for Brandee.
On to the meme.
onerie gave me 5 five words and I'm supposed to expound on them. Normally, I'd say that if you comment below I'd give you your own 5 word. However, I'm going to take off for Portland tomorrow and I'll be offline until Tuesday. (Squee! My sweetie and I at the B&B of Much Joy! Double squee!)
Ahem, OK, back now. Here goes:
1. Passion. Hm. This could be taken two ways, both of which is valid. If "passion" = "obsession", that is true. Yes, I can be obsessive about things (cue all of my freinds out there now uttering "duh!" ;-) ). But I'm not alone; I think it's a common now-and-future-Laurel trait to be obsessive about topics we love. If one reads passion as the #5 definition in my dictionary -- sexual desire -- well that's a fair cop as well. I am, after all, a lifelong hedonistic California girl with San Francisco values ;-) .
2. Adult. Much of the time I think I act like a little kid, especially when it involves something I really like (Squee!) But I think I know where
ornerie is coming from with this. I've had a rather complicated life and I've made bad choices. Now, in middle age, I seem to have gained Perspective (TM). I know full well that It's Not All About Me, and that the best way to live one's life and be a moral person is to Treat Others As You Yourself Wish To Be Treated.
3. Detail. In some ways this is totally fitting and in some ways it's not. If it's a detail I care about I can be obsessive about it. I love dressage, and that's riding for the detail-oriented, that's for damn sure. I'm good at analyzing and breaking down problems.
But at times I can be more of a big-picture person. I think what costuming I do and what I don't do is a good example. I have never been able to get all that interested in things like weaving and texile work at that level. I want to make the Big Pretty Dress. I have a good handle, I think, on how I can compromize and still get the look I want, but I'm not interested in weaving my own fabric et all. Nor do I bother to hand sew stuff when I don't have to and when it won't show.
4. Sparkle. Sparkle? *blink blink* Not sure. I can be a good hostess when I'm *on*, I suppose. And I *was* pretty shiney at 12th Night. Well, I confess that I do love my bling (wait until you see the coronet
acanthusleaf is making me! ;-) )
5. Tempe. As in tempe changes? Interesting word, what could she mean? I'm guessing that the uber-cute skipping effect of tempe changes must refer to me and Brandee the Paint Dressage Pony. ;-) Truthfully, I don't thing tempe changes are ever in our future. I know she could do a flying lead change someday, though! My trainer had such a good canter on her the other day that she said she's start training Brandee on counter-canter, which is a step in the flying lead-change direction. :-) Yup, dressage on Brandee is always going to be more "cute" then "impressive", no matter how much work went into it. Not a bad thing, when you think about it, really. Probably the same can be said for me. ;-)
