The Brandee Report, plus some

Brandee stuff:
Last week Brandee pretty much had off, partly because of my schedual and partly because Thursday my trainer found her all stocked up in her hind legs. She hand walked her and rinsed her and called me. By the time I got there around 5 she looked better than what my trainer described, and her left hind looked worse than her right. I thought maybe it was a bite of some kind; I found a scab that wasn't there Tuesday (which was the last time I'd seen her). She got hand walked and turned out Friday - Sunday, and the person I had doing this told me that A) it got a lot better and didn't seem to bother her, and B) she thought it might be an allergic reaction, especially since Brandee kept breaking out in hives this spring. When I went out there yesterday I thought she was pretty much over it (I wouldn't have noticed anything if I hadn't been looking for it. So I rode her -- if they're not acting lame work alleviates the swelling.

But since Brandee had been off and with babysitters her ground manners and work ethic were not, shall we say, up to her usual standards. This has happened before, so I wasn't terribly surprised. But I had to take extra time both on the ground and in the saddle, which made me late for Monday Night Sewing (and cut into my g0atface time :-( ). Hopefully we'll be back to normal tonight. (I don't get to have my usual Tuesday AM trail ride today because I've got to go in to get my new computer glasses.)

I'm now convinced that the bumps on Brandee's back aren't just reactions to bug bites, but pressure bumps. I *must* figure out a way to see the saddle-fix-it guy and get my saddle re-stuffed. I've had my saddle since 2003 and it's gotten a lot of use, so it's about time. But there goes another $100. In the mean time I've got to remember to order some sort of extra pad from Dover or Dressage Extentions or somewhere. Poor Brandee, I feel like a bad horse-mom. :-/

In other news:
Last night's Monday Sewing And Naked Underwear Night was one of the best! No sewing happened, but [livejournal.com profile] g0atface and [livejournal.com profile] cathyn were there, along with Paul and Sue and the rest of the Usual South Bay Crowd. Very gender-divided: all us girls wound up in Marguerite's bedroom and all the boys stayed in the living room. Reportedly the living room conversation was a lot more elevated than ours. ;-) Silliness that started at Cattleman's continued, which was hi-larious if you were there. And we did manage to be a teeny bit productive in that we started talking about all the planning needed for Purg. Fun memorable night. :-)

It occurred to me Sunday that we are 3 for 3 with regards to abdominal surgery during (or very close to) June Crown. Two years ago it was helblonde, last year it was me, and this year it was Richard d'C. This is not a tradition that should continue. :-/

And, last but not least, Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] helblonde! Here's to a wonderful, organized, fun, bear-positive, naughty friend. :-)

Sam and RdC were at the event, but (all the following is second-hand gossip!) he's recently been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and some lumps were removed. I heard it was caught early, and his prognosis is good.
