Busy fun smoozy weekend.

As most of you know, this weekend was our annual WK Arts & Sciences 'Tourney' (a very poor term for what it is). A&S is like a weekend collegium where everybody camps. This year was the second year in a row where A&S took place in the same park that borders my barn. So, for the second year in a row, I was the EQ autocrat and Marguerite was the EQMiC.

SCA events where I'm doing the horse-thing are completely different than my usual 16th C swan-around-in-my posh-frock-type events. I wear different clothes* and I (along with others who bring their horses) tend to be isolated from the rest of the event. So while there were a lot of classes I would have liked to take (especially the PPF debrief) and a lot of people I would have liked to have seen I didn't. :-( I'm torn about this -- I'd like to get to play in the cool classes at the next A&S but if we keep having it at that site I won't be able to resist bringing Brandee. :-/

Anyway, Saturday morning I met up up with Marguerite, Collett, [livejournal.com profile] sassycat8 and the rest of the usual Mists EQ crowd at the site and made sure everything in our area was OK. Then M, C, and I went up to the barn, tacked up, and rode Lucy, Shasta, and Brandee down to the site. Missed Zinaidia's Horse's 101 class, but I'm sure that was well done and recieved, as always. :-) Next period 6 of us practiced our Horses Bransle On Horseback routine. We had one rider who had not made it to more than one of our previous practices and she, shall we say, continued to have difficulty learning it. :-/

We performed our little routine with live musicians at the end of the lunch break. It was silly and all at the walk, but, hey, we did it and showed that this sort of thing was possible. Everybody had barding (thanks to a bunch of workshops M hosted) and so we looked really good. :-) We did it twice: the first time the aforementioned individual messed up at the same place she always was messing up. But the audience and the royalty insisted that we do it again, and the second time it came off *almost* perfectly. We did it, go us. Overall it was a lot better received than I thought it would be. I especially appreciated [livejournal.com profile] hrj telling me afterward that she enjoyed it (again, especially because it showed that this sort of thing was possible). Oh, and in keeping with the Only Girls Ride Horses motif so common around these parts, every participant in the routine -- both human and equine -- was female. ;-)

Cute aside: [livejournal.com profile] misagillian babysat Noah all day so M could play and be EQMiC. She brought Noah to see our performance. When M rode by Noah calls out "Mommy!" Then when I rode by Noah called out "Toni! Brandee!" I'm not a big kid-person but my heart did melt at this. :-)

Brandee was kinda cranky, like she always is at SCA events. [livejournal.com profile] joyce_wilde commented that Brandee looked like a 14 y.o. girl being dragged to church by her mom. ;-)

After that all of us EQ Laurel-types, after making sure that the ponies would be watched, took off for Vyncent's Laureling. It went off OK, but the ground was too uneven for all of his chopine models, esp. Vittoria in her 12 inch-ers. But V looked great, and the surprise clock that [livejournal.com profile] thelbk made was beautiful (so proud of you, hon!).
Took Gwen's EQ marshalling class (I've been an EQMIT for a long time now and I should get around to finishing that up -- bad me). Then we rode the girls back up to the barn and got them put away just as their dinner was being served.
Drove back to the site and had a Laurel Field Trip around to various displays, followed by a meeting. I was smoozing with Franchesca during court, but a big congrats to Etaine for her QoG!

Just as it was getting dark The Usual South Bay Suspects (TUSBS) took off for dinner. Much smoozing and a few good stories. "Are you decorating the llamas for the wedding" will be the pass-phrase in case we ever open a speakeasy, just so you know. ;-)

Sunday it was back to the site. Elsa gave a driving class that looked faboo. :-) Sat in on the last EQ class, broke down the EQ area, went up to the barn to take care of Brandee, and then met up with TUSBS (minus Joyce) and went to see new Hulk movie**, followed by a Fathers Day dinner for Brian and [livejournal.com profile] leohtulf at the Outback. At the risk of being mushy, it was really nice (and important) to me to be around my South Bay family-of-choice. Fathers Day has never been a day I observed or celebrated, so it touched me to be included. Thanks guys, I love you a bunch. :-)

*Once again someone who I know knows what I look like did not recognize me.

**Fun and enjoyable--liked Edward Norton a bunch in the role--but not as good as Iron Man by a stretch.
