Car Fu

My car was in the shop for its regular check-up and oil change (205K+ miles), and it turns out I need new breaks. The message(the mechanic called my home number) said that it was going to be "expensive" (NFI). I will get the details when I call him tomorrow morning, but it doesn't look good.

No car means no barn. Blah.

It could be more than just the brake pads. I know that if the pads get way down there, sometimes damage can be done to other parts of the brake units. And with a car that has 205K miles on it, it may just be general wear and tear and the whole brake units need replacing. That would not be cheap.

Bleah. If it's gonna cost, it's probably because the brakes are metal to metal & they have to resurface the rotors or replace the calipers.

I suppose it beats having no brakes, but it still kinda stinks.

Why don't you consult with moriven? He may be able to tell you if what your mechanic is charging something reasonable.

And I'm really good at giving mechanics heck if they're being unreasonable. (Some good did come out of the poopiness last year.)
