Cell Phone Musings

My old cell phone is really-o truelly-o gone, so I need to get a new one. Given that, as Ivar has said, I lead a nomadic life, I need to replace my cell phone ASAP. I can't decide to buy on online or wait until I can make it to a store. I'm going down to Tarnmists this weekend, so I don't know when I can get to a store. Not until next week, certainly, and that would mean taking (more) time off work. If I buy online I might get it sooner but I'd have to get a phone sight unseen, which makes me uncomfortable.

And I'm toying with the idea of getting a phone with some sort of music capability. I don't have an iPod, and CD's don't work in my car, so I really miss music in the car. OK, I can listen to the radio, but reception is always iffy.

Anyone out there have any thoughts or recommendations?

P.S. Until further notice, the best way to reach me is by email.

Advice being free... it's well worth the price.

*The reason why we stick with Cingular is our SCA travels... best coverage of the West Kingdom (with the exception of the Far West and Oertha).

*Remember that you eat up more energy by playing tunes, so get the car adaptor as well so your batteries won't run low.

*There are Cingular stores all over the place, i.e. probably on the way from home-to-barn-to-work-to-home. Check out locations and times via the web.

*There are a number of deals on the net that they do not offer in person. As such, even if you buy off line, go look at stuff in person... no sense buying sight unseen.

As someone who barely uses my cell, I went with the cheapie Go-phone. I really like the fact that I can get away with paying between $25 and $50 for three months' worth of calls, less if I'm calling other Cingular users.

I love my iPod, especially on long drives.

On the other hand

I am a confirmed fan of Verizon as a service provider and Nokia phones.

Check out their coverage map to see if it covers the places you care about. One of the reasons I made that selection is that Nokia makes a very good product, the best rated in the industry. The other reason is that I can call my mom in the deep south.
