16th C Day: Need Class Times!
May. 8th, 2010 11:26 amI just posted this on the 16th C Day Yahoo Group. I'm posting it here also to catch as many fish as possible. ;-) Remember, 16th C Day will be the Saturday of this year's West/An Tir War, and will located in the Stallarifannsk encampment, next to the Cooks Encampment.
----------
First off, apologies to everyone. My life has been really busy of late and I'm behind the curve on our 16th C Day planning. Time to make things happen...
Mistress Sabrina de la Bere is heading up the A&S activites at West/An Tir War this year, and she needs a class list and times. Now, I still would like the Day to be more like a party with ongoing "activites" (i.e. stealth classes/learning opportunities) rather than a formal classroom setting. But we need to operate (somewhat) within the existing A&S structure so that people can have an idea of what is going on when. :-)
Official classes at the War will all have the same start times: 9:00 AM. 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. Given the people/teachers who have confirmed so far, I propose the following scheduale. *Please* chime in and let me know if this plan is OK; I need to get our class time list into Mistress Sabrina ASAP.
9:00 AM Fabric Dying Demo: Come learn how to dye fabric in a 16th C fashion. Instructor: Katelijne from Montengarde (Note: I'm presuming this activite will go on for much of the day. Is this true?)
11:00 AM: Painting 16th C Portrait Miniatures. Come learn how to paint your own miniatures (There will be demo -- still looking for a volunteer. Anyone out there want to sit for a portrait?). Instructor: Johanna Ludwiga von Hertzberg (sp??)
1:00 PM: Field Trip to the Cooks Encampment: Come see what tasty 16th C food the Cooks making! Questions regarding about 16th C food and cooking are welcome and encouraged. Instructors: Various (i.e. The Cooks :-) . I know Juana will be there, as will Ann Marie.)
3:00 PM: 16th Marshal Arts in the SCA. Come learn how develop a 16th C heavy fighting kit. Instructor: Master/Don Iain Guthrie
(I'm also hoping that we can have a 16th C Rapier demo in the afternoon, but I have not yet confirmed this or who would be doing it. Again, time for me to follow up on this.)
Ongoing/unschedualled planned activities are:
-- a writing station to write letters from (and lessons in the italic hand -- on-hand instructor/advisor still TBD, although I will have printed materials for people to look at).
-- Venetian Plague Doctor! Come learn about disease and medicine in 16th C Venice. Extra special bonus: an overview of period poisons! Instructor: Fiameta Margherita del Sanguigno
-- Display of 16th medals and coinage
-- Music. At the very least, a performance by the madrigal group The Treblemakers is planned. I'm hoping this can include an informal talk about what makes 16th C music different from went on before and after.
Can you think of anything else.
Thank you all in advance! Again, I need to submit our class time list as soon as possible.
Genevieve
