I'm crabby today. I think I've just got too much stuff going on, and it's getting to me. Doesn't help that I thought I was done with a write-up at work yesterday, only to have a meeting with my PM who wants me to incorporate new stuff, which will take a significant amount of work. Grump. In other news:
- Brandee is back to normal. Swelling went away -- yay! I will get out to the barn tonight and ride for the first time in about 2 weeks. I *really* need the exercise right now.
- This weekend was crazy-busy in a social sense. Friday night was spent with The Usual South Bay Suspects gaming (J/S has joined the game). I brought my sewing machine and was able to get the ties finished and on the Gambosonwhosecreationseemstoneverend. :-/
Saturday J/S and I went to Southern Shores Newcomers Tourney. Very nice event, perfect weather, and a lovely lawn on which to set up our sunshade. And newcomers came! And took classes! I brought some books to let people look at, and they were well received. Met a couple of nice people. Overall a big win. Got to look like a tomb effigy, too, since I took a nap and didn't want to take my veil off (all I needed was a dog at my feet ;-) ).
After breaking down and packing up several of us met up for dinner and then caught a late show of Kick Ass (see previous post).
Sunday was practice for J/S at L&G's place, which he said was a very good practice that he greatly enjoyed. I met up with nightbocce and we headed to Klaus's to work on Grande Aissiette projects. I had stopped my effort in late 2008, so I had to find it all and then figure out what was going on. I had set it aside when the sleeve pattern Klaus made J/S wasn't working. But after practice J/S came to Klaus' and he fixed it, so now we have a pattern. :-)
Then it was back to L&G's, then dinner at Elephant Bar with a TUSBS and at least one addition (name escapes me right now. :-/ ). Many thanks to G&L for picking up the dinner tabs this weekend!!!
- On the sewing front, I'm now working on a sleeve pattern for the gambason. Progress was made at sewing night, but I don't have a final pattern yet. Someday I will be finished with this thing. I believe, I believe...
- Random 14th C thought: I keep looking at the book,
1381: The Peel Affinity: An English Knight's Household in the Fourteenth Century (Hardcover)
~ La Belle Compagnie and Friends (Author).
Klaus has it, so I looked at it again Sunday. It is quite the accomplishement for that group of reenactors, and it does have a number of "daily life"-type photos. But it stresses the military aspect of life. And, frankly, it comes accross to me, personally, as Serious and Dour. And, ya know, that's not the 14th C I'm interested in re-creating. I want to play in Boccaccio's 14th C, the land of free love and hot tubs and frolicing around fountains and gardens. ;-) There's even a picture of my 14th C in the Medieval Kitchen book: check out the illustration of the lady in pink and the guy in blue (Italians in about 1390) eating at a table set outside and being fanned by a young lady in blue. I want to do *that*. So I keep not spending the $40+ on the Peel Affinity.
- J/S and I are still very happy. :-) He's made significant progress on the shop, but it's not done yet. Rain has delayed things. And it's an overwhelming task, really.
Well, there is a bunch more stuff going on in and out of my brain, but I need to get more work done, so I'll sign off for now.
