Lovely weekend, busy week
Apr. 2nd, 2007 08:23 amCoronet was a lovely day. My ride with Brandee was short but good, and Brandee was an angel (so what else is new?). However, I always find it stressfull to ride and get to an event in one day, and this Saturday was no exception. I got to the site at noon and the only parking was *super* far away. I unloaded my stuff, parked, and walked back. Let's just say that I got my share of exercise Saturday. Once I was all changed and had eaten something I was much better and I had a good time.
Support for the School for the Courtier has been wonderful so far. Juliana of Tregorny, of the Treblemakers, is willing to do a 16th C music class, and gurdymonkey was willing to help with that topic as well. My dream is to be able to demonstrate the different forms of music with live performances. Juliana thought that was do-able, although whe thought recorded music would have to be used as well. Either way, having teachers for this available is a good thing.
Aastg is willing to do a handwriting class, and I confess that is the class I'm looking forward to the most. :-) My thought is to have students use their newly-acquired writing skills to write fight challenges to their favorite opponent. Alternatively (i.e. if they do not play rapier) they could write a letter or compose/copy a poem). The point is to get used to *using* the hand.
For dance, I had a person offer to teach without my asking! I think her name is Isabella -- she is a friend of Jeffy Matt and Crystal and is a dance event regular. When we get to the dance class we will probably need to find a place other than my house, though.
Now there is an interested in doing the book-club thing with Castiglione. Good thing. My copy is falling apart, so this would be a good time to replace it. In the past book club ideas have not actually happened -- we shall see, I think there is a better chance for follow through. Some of the student are looking at this material for the first time, so it will be fun to hear thier impressions and ideas (Castiglione is something of an old war horse for some of us; aways good to re-discover the classics
:-) ).
Edited to add: Oh Jeeze, I'm such a do-do. I forgot to mention the two best things about this weekend: G0atface got her Corola Vitae and misagillian got her Queens Order of Grace!!! I was poopy that I missed seeing them receive their awards, but I'm super happy that they got them. I have The Bestest Apprentices Ever! :-)
Riding is going pretty well. Last Monday and Tuesday Brandee was really high, which is unusual. I'm chalking it up to the colder and windy weather those days. Thursday I worked late and so the little girl did not clear her stall. Marguerite got out there Friday but was only able to run her around in the round pen for about 10 min. But Saturday and Sunday Brandee was super mellow -- guess it was the weather again.
This week is going to be busy. I've got to finish a report at work, Brandee and Shasta get shod, and Saturday morning I plan to have a test set up of my pavillion with the help of leohtulf and misagillian. Tonight I need to make wood tensioners over at Marguerite's so I can get them to Juana so she can finish my pavillion ropes before Saturday. I've gotten a big chunk of my pavillion painted, but I'm not going to paint any more between now and Saturday to ensure all the paint is dry before I try to fold up the canvas for Saturday's test. That's OK, I think this week the only thing I'm going to be doing is working and getting Brandee out.
Busy Busy Busy.
