OK, I found this all amusing.

I'm well enough now to get back to my lesson/training ride routine on Thursday. Brandee got a training ride yesterday. Given that, and the fact that Brandee hadn't had a turn out since (I think) Friday, I plan on letting her blow off some steam in the sunny round pen.

I arrive at the barn, and see that the vet is there. Noteworthy, but not uncommon. I walk into the indoor arena while swapping glasses (dark to regular). In my blurry vision I see some people hanging out around a lump on the ground. With glasses on, I see an equine that looks very dead on the end of a lungeline. My brain leaps to the assumption that there was a train wreak on the lunge line and the horse broke its neck. Being me I burst into tears, which at this stage of my life is something I have no control over. But I know that I've still got to have a lesson and get Brandee ready for her ride, so I tearily open up my tack box. And then I'm struck by the fact that no one seems upset. Heck, everyone is positively non-shalant -- the owner's 100-y.o. father is even watering the arena. Then I get a better look at the horse and the people. Isn't that that girl with the colt? Oh. Wait. Colt. Vet. I get it, they just gelded the colt, and the little guy is knocked out. Now, *why* they chose to do this in the arena and not in the stall is not entirely clear to me, but oh well. I laugh myself.

Then I go get Brandee, who I find is sleeping (while standing, in this instance). I wake her up and take her to the round pen. I'm thinking she's gonna buck the minute I show her the whip. Well, she sort of hopped a little, and that seemed to take a lot of effort. Then I got the world's most lacksedasical trot and canter possible. It dawns on me: I bet Erica worked Brandee's little patootie off yesterday. So when Erica arrives the first words out of my mouth are "We have a *very* mellow horse today", to which she responds, "Oh, I worked her *ass* off yesterday!" Too funny. It seems Erica didn't have anything else to do yesterday so she just took some extra time with the little girl. :-)

Brandee was a total rock star today during her training ride. Then we decide that because I'm coming back from being sick we'd do a lunge lesson (i.e. my riding Brandee on the line). After this Erica tells me that this is the best riding she's seem me do. Too Funny! Guess I had to be off for a couple of weeks. But I do rehearse stuff in my mind, and they say that really works.

Beautiful day out at the barn. Treated Brandee to lots of green grass grazing. I did make it into work today, though, and I'll get a half day in at least.
