Cross-post from the 16th C Salon Yahoo group.
March Crown is over, and Beltane is only a month away--time to firm up the plan. :-)
Here is who I have down for what:
Vyncent: Sunshade (i.e. Trouble)
Kira: Sunshade
Vigdis: Sunshade and bocce set(s)
Geoffery: Music and Dance organizer
Juana: Food organizer; will bring serving plates et all for *her* contributions
Ghislaine: food/drink contributor and strolling entertainer.
Santiago: Entertainment? (haven't checked back with him since January)
Alys/Gillian: vocal performance.
Aimeric: Head of games (table and board).
Genevieve: Games; head up discussion group (more below)
Elaina: Shilling out front, playing boccee
Obvious hole: We need tables! We need a table for food, and one, maybe two, tables for games. If I and/or anyone else bring books for people to browse through we'll need yet another table. That's a minimum of 3 tables, plus tablecloths. Remember, the plan is to have things set up for most of the day (although I want to end things at 5:00 PM), so these need to be tables people won't need for anything else Saturday.
Games: I found all my game stuff from the last Salon (Huzzah!) I have:
-- The Game of Goose (the ancestor of Candyland, really. Good game for parents and kids).
-- A deck of period cards and rules for Pimero (Vyncent, you said you liked this game...) , One and Thirty, and Put
--Irish (a form of backgammon)
-- Dublets (a form of checkers)
-- A combo Fox and Geese and Nine Men Morris board
-- several pairs of wooden dice and the rules for Hazard
-- a top (looks like a very small dredle) for the gamling game Tee Totum
I plan to get together with Aimeric before the event so he can familiarize himself with game rules. I have bags of pennies for gambling, but other tokens that people could gamble with would be appreciated.
It would be nice to also have a chess board. Volunteers?
I will be bringing a bocee set. Badmitton is arguably period, if anybody has a Badmitton set.
Discussion topic (as published in The Page): Is Honor based on public acts or private thoughts?
Schedual: As we've discussed, I think we should set up stuff in the morning, get dressed, then spend the day encouraging people to join us and play games, or hang out and make thier own informal music or whatever. After coronation court is finished we can start schedualled acitivites, which would be dance sets intermixed with performances. Towards the end--4:30?-- we start the group discussion. Everything ends at 5:00 PM, we break down, and folks go make their dinner.
I'd like the games to go on during the performances, so that people don't *have* to be an audiance if they don't want to. Therefore I see some physical separation between the games table and the performances.
Performances: Right now this is very thin. Alys and Gillian have a small vocal group, and Ghislaine has offered to do some strolling divination/fortune telling. Alessandro has told me that he will be too busy to participate, so that means no West Kingdom Choir. Geoffrey, how are things going on your end? We need to know what performaces we have before we can create a real schedual.
Invitations: Can anybody out there create invitations for our Royalty in a 16th C hand?
Eric Space: I'm not sure how to go about a) if we need permission to get space on the eric; b) who would grab eric space. I won't be there until late Friday afternoon or early evening, and people will have been there since Wednesday. If we are set behind the eric we will need to really shill to bring folks in.
Time to get cracking. If nothing else, let's get some tables!
