I'm writing here because goldenstag already had 22 comments.
I've been pretty busy at work, and I tend to avoid SCA-West debate-fu, so I've followed the discussion by a Certain Knight and Viscount (CK&V) and the rest of the list only cursorily. But I gotta say...
I've known the CK&V since I was 15 y.o. He and I have never really seen reality the same way. In the past I have enjoyed discussing stuff with him because I do subscribe to the "We find comfort with those that agree with us, we find growth from those who don't" school of thought. Having someone see something differently allow me to re-evaluate my assumptions and to see things more clearly, Even If in the end I decide to hold to my original opinion (which, I admit, is what usually happens.) Despite disagreeing about reality, the CK&V and I have always gotten along.
So now when I observe him saying Really Outrageous and Wrong stuff I still can't bring myself to write him off. I feel like I have a crazy relative: They may be crazy, but they're still family.
