Yesterday I went up to see Owen's mom, a trip that has been delayed several weeks due to weather and illness. As I've mentioned here before, Owen's mom doesn't know we've split--she is 85, very frail, and seems to be, how shall I say, drifting. Periodically her two sons (Owen and Scott) and I go up to Pleasant Hill and take her out shopping--usually to stock up on food, but also just to get her out of the house.

Yesterday she wanted up to go out and get her some sort of stereo for her bedroom so she could listen to her CD's there. (This woman has *a lot* of movies and CDs, which is understandable considering that she's homebound most of the time). So Scott and I head off to the local Good Guys and find a really cute Denon CD player and radio w/ speakers, complete with clock alarm and timer (so one can snooze to a CD, or wake up to one). Small, but really good sound, of $399. I was really taken with it, but I'm horse-poor, as we all know ;-) .

We bring it to Owen's mom and Scott sets it up. Owen's mom is *thrilled* with it. She likes it *so* much she decides to buy us all one. So we walked out of her place with checks to cover the cost. Owen hates my radio, and so is happy at the prospect of me playing more music and less radio, so no argument there as to where the little Denon will live. So today I cruised by the Good Guys near 237 and picked one up.

So now I have a little Denon system in my car waiting to go home. :-) Happy me! Although I do have guilt pangs over whether I'm being mercenary, but not so much that I turned down the offer...
